I live in the beautiful state of Maine. Maine was the 23rd. state to join the union and is also our most eastern state. Maine’s most eastern point is the village of Lubec, just across the border from Roosevelt’s summer home on Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada. Today, Maine also celebrates December 21 as Chester Greenwood Day. Chester Greenwood (1858-1937) was of Farmington, Maine, native and was the celebrated inventor of many things, most famously, the earmuffs. By the time of his death in 1937 he held over 100 patents and owned several large-scale factories in Maine.I love living in Maine, especially at its northernmost location. Madawaska is considered one of the four corners of the lower 48 states, and Fort Kent is a beautiful town that is the northern terminus of Route 1, the southern terminus being Key West, Florida. Between these two towns is the St. John River Valley, most notably settled by the French after being kicked out of Acadia, now called Nova Scotia. French is spoken most everywhere here as many are bilingual.
I’m dying to know why Annie called Santa! I made the best ever pumpkin bread last night – by mistake! I have a small food processor and poured half the sugar/egg mixture in a bowl to make room to add the pumpkin and oil. Blended it well, added it to the flour mixture, spooned it into the bread pan (it was rather thick) and put it in the oven. 20 minutes later I noticed the remaining egg/sugar mixture, pulled out the now partially cooked bread which was already toasty around the edges,, poured it over and thoroughly mixed it in. Cooked it for another hour and it came out perfect!

Calm? With any ten cats, that would be asking a lot. With this crew, no, not possible. Be thankful for wonderful Annie and her ability to cope.

I went to the grocery store today, and they had a big display of Valentine’s Day candy and decorations. I am still trying to figure out why.
