If you think of time as a dimension then it just is, like North or Up. If you think of it as a perception then it does pass… and the rate is related to your emotional state. Fun fact: At least one culture imagines they’re moving through time BACKWARD and what comes into view is the present, revealed from where it was hiding behind them.

I imagine her with a one-owner 1964 bright red Mustang convertible with a bazillion miles on it from driving on cross country road trips every summer.

The rate that time passes is relative to your current age. Using the road analogy, when you are one you are moving at 1mph, when you reach sixty you are moving 6000 times faster.

I prefer the ancient Greek way of viewing time: as flowing past us from behind.

I wonder if Mrs Olson is one of those drivers who sit bolt upright with white knuckles gripping the steering wheel going 15 miles below the posted speed limit.

I’m 76 years old and have never driven a car, but if I had, I’d probably be the driver you describe. Mrs. Olson would NOT, however.
