Yes, well, she could have provided a mat for him to step on and a towel for Dear to use to clean your feet, but since she didn’t you guys didn’t do too badly. Whatever drips there are aren’t bad.

Putting newspapers down to walk on, might have saved the floor.

    Some muddled thinking there. ;-)

My dog would come in and stand on the mat, lifting each foot in turn so I could use wipes to clean them. I miss my sweet little girl.

I’ve done that. Carried the 45-pound dog to the sink and stood him in it to rinse his feet.

We have a door mat outside the front door, along with a boot scraper/brush and a place to sit … muddy shoes can be parked beside the door until they’re dry enough to bring in. Bella knows to wait in the hallway until we have time to towel her off and (like Conan before her) not to shake muddy water all over the place. It helps that she doesn’t actually like to get wet or muddy.

And, thus, is born the mud room that separates the front door from the rest of the house.

Even without a mud room, one MUST plan on a muddy dog, especially a low-slung one!
