The human opposable thumb is longer, compared to finger length, than any other primate thumb. This long thumb and its ability to easily touch the other fingers allow humans to firmly grasp and manipulate objects of many different shapes. (WWW so it must be true). Thumbs up.

Previously, Linus had bragged about his hands, only for Lucy to tell him they had jelly on them.

I had a cat who had extra toes on his front feet that were positioned like thumbs, and he taught himself to use them as such. He could pick things up & even turn on a light using a wheel-switch in the cord.

Hands are one of the few adaptations humans possess that are superior to all other organisms on the planet. No other animal has the dexterity to manipulate objects the way we do.

One other thing humans excel at is throwing things with accuracy: it could be a football, a baseball or a spear. Apes can fling things but I think I am safe to declare that no ape will win a Cy Young award.

I believe they’re talons, not claws. Claws are what carve your doghouse into millions of wonderful shapes all the time.

I know how important a thumb is! I had surgery last month to remove a bone spur and realign it from extreme arthritis in the basal thumb joint that connects it to the wrist. Now I have to do strength and flexing exercises many times a day to recover range of motion. Ouch!

Was this the inspiration for that song by Jewel? (who is in the news lately because she felt obligated to apologize to her fan(s?) for playing at an inaugural event.

I think claws are for most birds but talons are specially for birds of prey.
