Years ago got around 40" and many of us have oil heat. The oil needs to be delivered and the delivery guys were being stuck in the snow. They finally said no path, no oil.
Was talking with someone once who told a story about something similar happening to a dachshund dog a friend had who had been let outside for a moment. Snow proved too deep for its short little legs to reach the ground and got itself stuck partway embedded and unable to move until its owners came and bailed it out.
We had a storm like that when I was 13 years old. Drifts to the second story windows. It took two days to shovel out the drive. On the fifth day with no snow plow in sight for our road. My buddy and I volunteered to walk to the grocery store about a mile away. We had to wade through some snow like that up to our chest – and I was not a small kid.
I remember climbing on a snow pile and getting stuck at a friend’s house when I was a kid. The teenage guy who was staying with them pulled me out, but my boots stayed stuck, lol
Title panel: Wallace & gull are seen from outside the huge window (upstairs in Wallace’s loft room, I think), looking out and up, agog, at falling snow. Snow has piled up and draped on the top of the window frame and on the outside sill—shown outlined like everything else, but the big clumpy snowflakes in the air all over are just soft spots of white, as if made with white paint, or possible erasure by water drops.

Wallace needs to either evolve longer legs, or a snow-compliant life vest.

Forecast for Tuesday is light snow (central Alabama). I’ll believe it when I see it.

Wallace’s house is on stilts. There is snow visible from the top of the poarch. How deep is that snow?
