Back when Whitman Mayo was filling in for Red Foxx on Sanford and Son, on one episode his Grady character was in the kitchen singing. “Beans, beans, the musical fruit. The more you eat ’em, the more you…” [knocking sound from front door interrupts him.]
For me it’s one of the staples! I could live on beans and rice. I like different varieties, but my favorite is is the Mexican variety; refried beans and red rice.
It appears that in Germany, eating soft pretzels on New Years Eve is lucky. More our speed – and hubby is part German. Beans and rice mixed is not a thing in our home.
Rice and Beans is a staple of the poor in many nations. It is cheap provides complete nutrition, and is tasty. I like to kick mine up a notch or two by adding Andouille Sausage and Tabasco.

(The following is just joking around, not trying to start anything.)
Many kitchen gags over the years. When was the last time that they dined in a restaurant?
Come to think of it, when was the last time they went to a movie? A sporting event? Anything except visiting the kids?
They don’t get out much, do they?

Red beans and rice, red beans and rice,
Red beans and rice, I could eat a plate twice.
Red beans and rice, red beans and rice,
Red beans and rice make everything nice.
So nice. So nice. So nice

There is a dish towel that She gave me hanging over one of our kitchen cabinet doors that says “I love you more than biscuits & gravy!”
In the aid of clarity: I love B&G, and make the World’s Best; She won’t touch it.
