In the 50s I recall my Dad hiring a roofing company that installed asbestos shingles on our house. I bet the cost of removal would now exceed the cost of ten new roofs. A few years back we remodeled a house built on 1906. Had to have siding tested. Just fibre board….Thankfully the steam heating pipes were replaced years before.
When the tobacco companies tried to give the impression they could make smoking safer, Kent cigarettes came out with Micronite filters which had asbestos in them.
I went to a Junior High School that was still steam heated and had asbestos around the steam pipes..Gone now; I bet the remediation/demolition was incredibly expensive. Hated that place.
funny, and yet not… I know a fellow that was raised in Libby, Montana… his lungs are shot, and lives from day to day… but what did WR Grace care?? As long as the robber barons lived high on the hog….

Still using 1,300 tons a year in the US (2023). And 1,600,000 tons in Asia.

Those guys completely seal off the area and the building is entirely enclosed when they do this. There is no danger to people on the street

Reminds me of a story Wanda Sykes tells of her childhood. When the ‘Mosquito Man’ came around all the kids followed his truck and danced in the DEET….

At least the worker should be wearing a breathing mask, safety glasses and gloves.

I’ve read that in some of the older movies they actually used asbestos as snow.
