    I adopted a cat who had been on display in a bird store window in Berkeley. When I walked by, Betsy leaped at the window. “You look like a great guy. Get me out of here.”

    I walked on, had an expresso and returned to make inquiries. I called my wife and drove 20 miles to pick her up, so she could see Betsy, who had been in that window amidst raucous bird calls for three days. We took her home, where she ran around like a mad thing for two hours before settling down. She was fifteen pounds, a total “jock” cat and loved playing with my 17-year-old cat.

    Let a cat pick you. It usually works out better.

    Three of my SIL’s dogs were strays, no I’ll take that back, two were strays, one – the husky followed her and my brother home walking the other two lol

    We’ve adopted several stray kitties over the years. They are always very nice to the other cats when they first join the family, but become intolerant when another new kitty shows up… it’s like they forget their own humble (and similar) beginnings…
