I remember reading these in middle school, and thinking that I had seen people act the same way.

Yesterday he smacked her, today tried to drown her. I shudder to think what’ll happen tomorrow.

It’s not funny. Something is wrong with that guy. No female should ever put up with that crap.

Sensing a pattern here. I’m betting you won’t find this series in many paperback collections.

I hope, like Walter White, this guy is about to see the error of his ways. Because this is in no way funny.

Since there have been many times where some of the original strips (be it because they were unavailable or the copyright holder didn’t want them released, or what have you) are missing I hazard to say that this weeks should have joined those. I do not recall this dinosaur being such an bully. I lump this behavior in with the Fat Broad abuse of the poor snake. Abuse played for comedy is rarely funny.

Meanwhile, I wish that the powers correlate the dates so that we do not have summer strips in the middle of winter. Having Christmas (anachronisms aside) strips in July is always jarring.

The male stickleback fish will, when encountering a female stickleback fish, simultaneously exhibit courtship behavior and territorially-protective aggressive behavior. The two responses ( equally instinctive) are incompatible, and sticklebacks lack a higher cerebral function allowing negotiation between/reconciliation of contradictory impulses. (Nonetheless, stickleback fish manage to perpetuate their species.)

Humans are likewise driven by separate, sometimes contradictory, instinctive responses to stimuli. Yet our neurological evolution has provided us with a sophisticated mechanism to resolve contradictory mechanical (reflexive) impulses. We call this “choice,” which may be no less deterministic than purely instinctive action, but the illusion that we are exercising “free will” keeps us from existential despair.
