The Chinese new year symbolized by the snake begins Jan29th. In America, nine days sooner and lasting four years.

Trump has already emptied out the State Department, demanding resignations from dozens of career employees.

Back in the early 1800’s the British had a government referred to as “All the Talents”. Now we’re getting a government that is All the Incompetents.

Dr. King told the audience that if God had let him choose any era in which to live, he would have chosen the one in which he had landed. “Now, that’s a strange statement to make,” King went on, “because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around…. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.” Dr. King said that he felt blessed to live in an era when people had finally woken up and were working together for freedom and economic justice.

He knew he was in danger as he worked for a racially and economically just America. “I don’t know what will happen now. We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter…because I’ve been to the mountaintop…. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life…. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!”

People are wrong to say that we have no heroes left.

Just as they have always been, they are all around us, choosing to do the right thing, no matter what.

Wishing you all a day of peace for Martin Luther King Jr. Day — Heather Cox Richardson

The insurrection makes trump ineligible to be President. He is not legally qualified for that office. The Fourteenth Amendment is clear on this. The Supreme Court of the United States restored him to the ballot only, not his legitimacy.

That does not remove his disability to take the office of President. The Fourteenth Amendment gives that right to Congress. Thus far, Congress has not voted on the issue, so he is still legally not qualified to be President.

Democrats should not treat him as legally President short of congressional action to make him eligible. And no court has standing to interfere in this process. The ruling of the SCOTUS doesn’t make him eligible to take office, only to appear on ballots.

trump is president illegally, he can’t fire anyone. He can’t hire anyone. He can only command people who want to ignore the constitution, like he does now. Or people who are ignorant of it. We need to make sure that no one is.

Even conflicted John Roberts should think long and hard about swearing in an insurrectionist who has said he wants to “terminate” the constitution and broke his previous oath of office.

Ultimately the constitution tells us all what is acceptable, and what isn’t.

Times opinions today: A King? A Pawn? A Rogue? The Founders Could Barely Imagine a President By Stacy Schiff — Ms. Schiff, the author of “The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams,” is at work on a book about Benjamin Franklin. “Franklin worried throughout the convention about greed,… Franklin observed there was a natural inclination in mankind to kingly government. … ‘I am apprehensive, therefore, … that the government of these states may in future times end in a monarchy.’”

The Conversation — Gail: Not thrilled with ushering in four more years with a guy who might blow up the planet. Good Lord, four years. … can we march along for 48 months, standing up for sanity and not going insane ourselves? … but if I have to stagger through it, happy to know I’ll be doing it with you.

Bret: Feeling is mutual. It’s gonna be a helluva ride.

Well, it’s been said that Anyone can become president. I don’t think the person that initially said that had a convicted felon, perp, and thief in mind!

The coronation will take place inside the capitol building where tRump led an insurrection against the U.S. on January 6, 2021. It reminds me of Hitler demanding France surrender in the same railway car Germany had to surrender in 1918.

Sorry you all are so unhappy. When gas is under $2/gal and food is cheap again, and prices for everything come down. Thanks Trump. And don’t say his tariff’s will cause prices to go up.His tariff’s on Iron/steel/aluminum were so effective Biden kept them on all four years.
