I always relied on the final bell to wake me up. I was first out the door!

A simple tap on the shoulder would have worked

One of our teachers in grade school had his own way of dealing with that. He would throw a blackboard eraser at you if you fell asleep in class. Couldn’t do it now because most classrooms don’t have chalkboards, but have replaced them with Promethean boards.
