My brother’s birthday was on Washington’s Birthday. He used to tease me, saying, “MY birthday is on Washington’s Birthday…the greatest president…founding father…we even live in a white house. YOUR birthday is on the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire & other disasters.” The funny thing is, as an adult he was in a horrible accident & lost chunks of his memory. He forgot everyone’s birthdays – including his own kids – except mine! He called me almost every year on my birthday. (RIP Larry…I miss you. 1961-2023)
I was in college when the date of the US holiday was changed to create a three-day weekend. A group of us decided to celebrate “the changing of Washington’s birthday.” We went to my parents’ hunting cabin on Massenutten Mt. in VA. And got snowed in. 7 people in a one-room cabin with electric heat (sort of,) 2 overhead lightbulbs, a water spigot, a hot plate, and an outhouse. But that wasn’t the worst of it. We had my brother’s cassette player… and only one cassette.

If George Washington was alive today he’d be really, really old.
Most likely an immortal, or maybe a vampire.

You wouldn’t want to be around the people who are invited, either. At any time in history.
