I love to read and I love my library. I can request books from any library in Maine. I can watch a variety of movies on their channel āKanopyā. There are also various groups I can participate in. Libraries are so much more than books!
Gasp! My grandsonās school, few years back, has a 3~D printerYour tax dollars at workā¦.and we wonder what they do with the moneyā¦.just like in my city, the foot ball stadium has a water fountainā¦..
Libraries have always been the storage arenas for knowledge, both scientific and sociological, along with the storage of literature from so many different eras, that constantly change. They have been around for thousands of years, evolving as times change. This is a new era for libraries, and they must go with the times. Books will always have a place unless we get an Orwellian society where big brother destroys our print literature by telling us what we can and cannot read and that certain literature is evil and destructive to society. Print on young lad and make that whatever it is you are about to makeā¦ā¦
I just read a book by Chris Lemmon about his Dad Jack. One of my favorite actors. If you liked him, you should read the book. You can get it on Amazon, or try the library. Called A Twist Of Lemmon.
When things were closed all over due to the pandemic, our librarians always found a way to connect us with books. Either we lined up outside, 6ā apart, to one doorway where the librarians grabbed our books for us, or they came out to our cars and did the transactions, they kept things running. I love libraries. At one time, my beagle was a therapy dog at the library. They had a program where the kids read to the dogs. It gives the kids confidence in reading out loud. My dog often ended up sitting right next to the child or sitting on the lap of the parent. Most dogs, I think, just fell asleep on the bed provided for them. I ran into one of the girls, now a young lady, in the hospital where my dog works now, and she found us in the cafeteria on a break and re-introduced herself to me. Both my dog and I remembered her. Her father was a patient, and she asked us to go see him. His wife was also there. It was a happy reunion for all of us.
Libraries have evolved with the rest of the world and thatās a good thing. They aim to serve the Uncle Teds and the Wilberforces of the city, and everyone in between ā and they do so well. When I walk into our library I see an amazingly diverse group of childre, adults, and us oldsters, all enhancing their knowledge with media they are comfortable with. We are so fortunate to have them. Almost as fortunate as having Uncle Ted!
Libraries have always been places to get knowledge. They provide that in the form and language that is most conducive to the community that library is in. And yes there will always be a need for libraries because there will always be a need for someone to guide in the search for knowledge.
I was walking through the stacks at a local university and commented to the woman I was with āI love the smell of old books, what do you think it will smell like in 30 years when its filled with old tablets?ā She gave me an eye-roll and āOh your a funny oneā
I am currently reading a book by Daniel Silva. I like his books. The next book is by James Rollins, who I think is a veterinarian, and I like his books too. I have quite a few favorite authors, and I am very behind in my reading. I am working on it.
Whoever wrote this slop has never seen the inside of a library this century. Books are still around and people still love them. Just because you want to reject new technology doesnāt mean you can assume the youth do the opposite. And most of them probably have better vinyl collections than you also.

People would rather use an Amazon Fire to get a book than go to the library.

A back room check will give you clearance for words of wonder.

Neither books nor technology are going away. The books may change form, but they will be there.

If you want a real book you have to go in the back door.

Reading to your children not only helps them learn to read, but shows how exciting a story can be by picturing everything in your head!

I have several books in my library and when I want to escape I curl up with one Iāve read before, like seeing an old friend.
