    The proper phrasing is “May I have a drink, please.”Don’t make me rap you on the knuckles with a ruler, like my Grade 4 teacher did to me.

    Here’s a good reason. You won’t get a drink without saying it.

    That request wouldn’t call for a ‘please’ normally (with respectful kids). But parents made a rule in the previous strip, and so – yes – there’s a good reason for a ‘please.’

    As with so many of life’s valuables, respect is not given, it’s earned. Some may enjoy advanced credit, but the bill does come due.

    I do hope this is not happening in the real world. I know adults and others are rude, don’t use please or say thank you, etc
..so I guess children are following the example of “adults”.
