Spit ball, Friends. Been there since Abner Doubleday [supposedly] devised the game. Probably started when a guy spit on his hand for a better grip [lots of examples for that in other occupations], found it also gave him better control of the ball, and thus became a pitcher’s go-to when things got tight. Don’t know why it was banned. Batters did the same thing at time and that wasn’t banned.

Anybody remember “The Mad Hungarian” (Al Hrabosky), from the St. Louis Cardinals? I once saw him come in to finish a game, walk the bases full, then strike out the side… ㋛

Looks like a lot of soil for the fill??

Who are they playing? I always wondered about that.
