I often use my semicolon, except when I eat too much cheese.

Semicolons are colons shipped in semi-trailers. Once out of the semi, they become colons.

Horace is due for his semicolonoscopy.

Use them when you want. No one is certain enough themselves to find fault.

Same with hyphens. They are endangered now thanks to texting.

A semicolon is also appropriate and even useful when separating items in a list. If the list has items that themselves require commas, then the semicolon is needed. “I traveled to Syracuse, New York; Portland, Maine; and London, England.”

And yet there it is on the home row keys, right under your pinkie and rarely doing much.

Semicolons are still useful, as long as the sigmoid is intact.
