Sigh. Not the outcome we wanted, but understandable. Glad to hear you aren’t stopping all of ‘em. Maybe someday the itch to have a “Return to Barkeater Lake” strip will surface… Just keep all our e-mails on file so you can let us know!!
Barkeater Lake the Series? Move over Seth Macfarland.
I feel theway I did when Waterson stopped Calvin and Hobbes or when FBOFW had that “American Graffitti” ending. GOOD LUCK COREY
P.S. You DO kinda resemble BONO….guess thats why its called ‘Fake Rockstar”.
Corey So sorry you made the decision you did, but such is life! I wish you good luck in your future endeavors, I guess I’ll have to check out Toby, and will keep reading Green with Envy.
GOCOMICS GRAB THE RERUNS, PLEASE!
Thanks Corey, Barkeater Lake has been a FUN RIDE!!
I am awash with grief, but understand. To sorta quote some famous dead guy: “Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night sweet Banks, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Corey, I’m heartbroken but I understand. Your reasons make perfect sense. All best in your future endeavours, which I will be watching with interest. Good luck in the Big Apple, which is my hometown - although I left it 40 years ago, my heart is still there. May your future be brilliant!
My greatest regret is that Delores’ boyfriend turned out to be a jerkwad… I hope, somewhere in that nevernever space, she finds a nice guy - she deserves one.
I really hate to see BL go, I have completely enjoyed it, even when it was sporadic. It was always worth the wait, but change comes to all. Banks, Chuck, Delores, Allen, even that soused mother of hers I will miss them all.
Do me a favor and give GREENE WITH ENVY a fair chance. NOBODY liked Barkeater Lake in the beginning. It took several months to for folks to really latch onto the characters.
10 years from now, when I’m thinking about ending GREENE WITH ENVY, I bet you all say the same things your feeling here…
Just sayin’…
Thanks again and I can’t wait to see how this thing ends!
While I’m sad to learn that there will be no new BL, I eagerly anticipate BL Classics.
If anyone from GoComics reads these posts, please run Barkeater Lake from the beginning.
Damn. That doesn’t mean I don’t understand, but…damn. How I hope gocomics picks up the reruns. Regardless, my Barkeater Lake certificate and t-shirt will keep the memory alive!
Well,
To use what the Cab drver said ” I guess I’ll have to plop down some of my hard earned cash to by the book’s.”
From what i’ve seem it’ll be money well spent..
What books are you referring to, hawgowar? The pre-order books that aren’t printed yet, or did you order something that I have in stock and neglected to send to you?
Please email me at corey@fakerockstar.com and let me know, so I can remedy the situation.
Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but just once I’d wish you’d use my first name in your posts.
I’ve never read commments here because reading and commenting on just one is enough. But someone there mentioned that BL was going to end. Thanks for all the fun, I hope you will kind of tie up loose ends first. And I didn’t know you were a Mainer. It sure will be different for you in the Big Apple. I’ll have to give the other strips a chance. Thanks again!!!! Live long, Love and Prosper.
It takes courage to end something, especially when it’s a thing you’ve created and grown, even if you think it’s the right thing to do, and especially when others urge you otherwise.
I shall miss Barkeater Lake when it’s done, but I shall give the other strips a try.
My hat is off to you, Corey, for doing the courageous thing (even though I’m one of those who wish it were otherwise).
Ah, crap. Oh, well – all good things come to an end. I’ve got your first book (thanks for the Banks sketch!) and am looking forward to getting the second. I loved the Barkeater Lake citizens and I love your sense of humor. Please reveal some solid tidbit about the apparently immortal (or maybe just reallllly long-lived) Banks a.k.a. Scraps before you go!
Your fans understand and respect your decision, Corey, no matter how much it disappoints and saddens. Calvin and Hobbes ended, Liberty Meadows ended, Peanuts ended (granted, long after it should have) and now Barkeater Lake. Thank goodness for TOBY, et al. May we someday see a reunion book!
And y’know … Delores needs and wants to find that special someone, and who else has always been there for her and been the smartest, classiest guy around? Banks, that’s who. Just sayin’, if you want a happy ending.
Hey, it’s not that risque or weird. Marvel Comics got Howard the Duck and Beverly together as a couple back in the ’70s. I never got over my astonishment at how they somehow managed to show Howard slipping out of bed with Beverly in it …
Maybe that was the black-and-white-magazine version, aimed at an older audience than the color comic. But STILL…!
A sad day for all who got to know the crazy residents of Barkeater Lake as if they were family and friends–and we’ve all got those family members and friends, admit it or not. I’ve read BL from the first strip, and I hate to see it end, Corey, but I can’t fault your reasons; just wish the powers-that-be had been more supportive in making BL as rewarding for you as it has been for your readers. I really do think it’s the best of your work…only a great comic would inspire such a turmoil when readers don’t get their fix, so please forgive the criticism about the inconsistency and take it as a compliment toward the art.
And yeah…maybe I’ll give Greene with Envy a shot, as long as you promise not to get me totally hooked and then go wishy-washy again.
I just read some of all the other comics you write, and I don’t like any of them enough to keep up with them, sorry. Elderberries gets a little political. The others, well, kind of “I didn’t want to think about that” sometimes. Oh well.
In the spirit of bilateralism, let me propose a compromise. How ‘bout if Deloris, Chuck and Banks move into the Greene’s neighborhood? That place is clearly in need of a P. E. teacher, an olympian, and a talking dog.
Like all good TV, movie franchises and music groups, it’s best to end on a high note then drag it out until it becomes a caricature of it’s former self. (I’m looking at you Rolling Stones and Friends).
You had a great run Corey and I thoroughly enjoyed visiting BL for the last Ten years. Greene with Envy has great potential and I look forward to reading it in the years to come. All the best in your future endeavors.
Go Comics - Run BL from the beginning. If FBOFW can do it, you can do it with a bacon-loving, pilot dog who appears to be the sane one in the group.
Corey, I’ll miss BL, but I am enjoying GWE. I’m sorry to see it go, and I won’t say I understand, because I don’t. But it’s your strip and you get to choose.
(I think the chipmunks would be a great addition to GWE, with an occasional ‘guest’ shot by Dolores, Chuck and Banks - Great idea ottod!)

I think this move to NYC was inevitable for your sanity because, if I may quote some other rock stars, there is no sleep till BROOKLYN.

Corey,
I guess I understand how you feel. “Greene With Envy” sort of makes me itch too. If you get back to re-thinking, my votes are for BL and Toby.

Toby holds no interest for me. I’ll give GWE a little time. Never got my books and I doubt I ever will.
NYC spoils all it touches, and has now spoiled BL.
From hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Ye damned city.

Hey Colorado,
I’ll begin the two-month ending of the strip tomorrow. Taking the Holiday weekend off to fully absorb the idea of ending the comic.
See you all tomorrow!

Hey guys,
While the idea of the CHPMNKs moving to ENVY sounds fun, it won’t really work in with what I have planned for the strip.
I bet the CHPMNKs have there own adventures soon in book and short comic book form. That’s the word on the street, anyhow.
On an update note, I caught a nasty cold over the weekend, so I’m slow to the punch this morning. Updates will commence after lunch today, me thinks.
Thanks to all you continue to weigh in on the big news. I’m excited to show you what I have planned for the final days.
Cheers!

This is the 4th comic strip that has decided to stop and pursue other things. Maybe it’s the sign of the time, but it’s got me bummed.
