My reading level was several notches above my actual grade level. During reading aloud sessions, when I got called on, I never had the place. My teacher thought I was actually retarded, but the actual situation was that I was a dozen pages ahead of the other kids. I was lucky, I guess. I only got punishments - these days, Iād probably be force-fed ritalin.
Actually itās a myth he got bad grades. He was decidedly average in math, and very good at science. When he went to post-secondary he failed a math class because the instructor didnāt like him, but that was all. He retook it and passed.
Calvin proves his intelligence every time he lives out one of his playtime fantasies. It takes a smart boy to get into the mischief that Calvin gets himself into.
I have a nephew that tested off of the charts in public school. He would frequently get bored and act out in class. He didnāt socialize because he felt the other kids were beneath him, So where is he today? A gay computer programmer in San Francisco with no social skills. I donāt think we have to worry about Calvin because he has all the social skills he needs, and then some.
Calvin will invent a time machine soon enough. Suzie has no idea who sheās dealing with! Hereās a genius in the make. Whatās a ādumb projectā for himā¦.
I had the same problem as Runar. I would be pages ahead and never know where the rest of the class was. Eventually they figured out I was smart and put me in the gifted classes, which I eventually got kicked out of, too. I guess I was just way smarter than everyone else, just like Calvin!

yes alexhuama, imagination is the food that knowledge feasts upon
dirtyfrank, you were lucky they had advanced classes. I went to a Catholic school that not only was too cheap to have advanced sessions, but was also more interested in instilling conformity than actual learning.
Reading the comments here sort of confirms my belief that school really is a great place for messing the really gifted up for the rest of their lives :(
I wonder how many of the regulars here see themselves in Calvin?
so cute. i know a few people whos grades are a lot lower then Einsteins and Calvins put together. (yes it can be that bad) i grade papers and have seen some low ones. it is bad.
musicnut1986, I didnāt think it was possible to be a gay man living in San Francisco (been there, done that), and NOT have social skills. Iāll bet your nephew has plenty of social skills that heās just not showing you.
Calvin is not dumb. He has a great imagination. He may not be book learning smart but he will go far with his imagination, he will be a writer of some kind.
With that sort of logic, Calvin will certainly grow up to be a leading politician.
In Australia those grades and ego qualifies you for a long life in polictics.

If your grades are bad enough, you may even devise the successor to general relativity.

Runar, Iām right there with youā¦I feel (felt) your pain. Thank God for fast paced Math classes!!!
Unclebup almost 16 years ago
How many other 6th graders knew Einstein had bad grades. Calvin is well read. I think most geniuses have weak social skills - maybe that explains it.

Hah I did projects like that. I was usually Susie, though Iād occasionally do a Calvin and let someone else do all the work lol.

I flunked spelling class the year I won the school spelling bee. Grades are often a very poor measure of actual competence in a subject.
