Of course one never knows how to take care of EVERYTHING. It cannot be done. The point of reaching adulthood is to know precisely that and to know you still have to take decisions. You cannot put it onto others.
My kids are in their 30’s & there is so much I should have figured out, but didn’t. That was with almost constant prayer. Now I pray that our kids will be better parents than we were.
I completely missed mom and dad changing places! The change seems to have happened yesterday. In the first panel mom’s head can be seen on the right but in the last panel it seems like dad is on the right.
Unfortunately being the head of the house doesn’t make you exempt from feeling violated when your home is broken into. In fact it can make you feel more so simply because you feel it’s your job to ensure that sort of thing doesn’t happen but since it did you feel you failed in some way. Dad’s feelings are quite justifiable.
I’m hoping this thread continues until the burglars are caught and the family’s ‘stuff’ is returned, but since I heard this is based on a real break-in I don’t think that’ll happen.

Someone must be a really restless sleeper, they keep swapping sides of the bed… Wouldn’t you be restless after having your house burgled?… But still ;)
Oddly, I find it very comforting that we are all ad-libbing a bit. The idea of having it all plotted out and knowing exactly what to do all the time sounds good but would squeeze all the life out of living. And this from a father of two teenaged boys!
But where are Calvin & Hobbes? Haven’t seen either forever. Did the burglar snatch them? Did they sneak out to snatch the burglar? Is Dad’s main fear that those two will take over the earth? Calvin, where are you?
I noticed the bed switch, too, both yesterday and today.
My husband always sleeps on the side closest to the door of the room we’re in. That means we switch sides when we sleep in the RV. Took the cat camping with us last week-end, and he was sooo upset that we weren’t on the “right” side of the bed.
rise22, the right side is always the right side of something you are on or in (car, stage, bed). I’m disappointed in mom and dad, they thought adults had it all figured out when they were kids? Most of got most of their education from ugly puppets with irritating voices on TV.
Being left-handed, I prefer that my partner sleeps on my right. She seems to like it better too. She’s right-handed.
I wonder if there’s been a study about opposite-handed couples being more compatible and nocturnally fulfilled than same-handed ones. I bet we are.
Dagwood Bumstead, the SKNXXX king, has always slept on Blondie’s right. I don’t even know why I know that. I haven’t seen the strip in at least 15 years. As a kid, I used to wonder if they ever had sex or if they were more like my parents.

My husband and I are both right-handed and after being married for almost 22 years now, I’d say that we’re still just as “compatible and nocturnally fulfilled” as the day we married!
Amen, Dad! Adults have only a few advantages: they have made enough decisions to have some idea of what not to choose, and they know who to ask. Likewise grandparents: they’ve seen a lot of the problems earlier, so are good ones to ask when in doubt…
Well, we are all on the same wavelength ‘cause as I finished reading this strip today I thought “Amen!” and it’s already been said here… a few times. But it can’t hurt to say it again so Amen! I think that alot of what we read about in this strip reflects Watterson’s thoughts thoughts and feelings at the moment just as any work of art will transmit it’s author’s thoughts. Anyway, he was and still is a friggin’ genius. Bill, come back! We miss you!
When I was a child I thought everithing is obvious, to have a job, to have a flat or a house to live, to have money and something to eat. When school was over I recogniced that it is not obvious to have a job and money. I had to learn it!
