Well said, Corey. I can’t believe the mean-spirited nature of all those people who are upset just because you SAID you were going to come through with MWF comics because you wanted to give them something, and then immediately took the week off to drink beer with your buds without further comment.
You really, truly, don’t get what the issue is after all this, do you? Here’s a hint…it’s NOT that you needed to take some time off. That part’s OK.
Hey Corey - stop asking us to preorder your books when we can’t even get a regular schedule on the comics. Preorder now - get it in 2050! No thanks. I have my copy of your first book and some of the strips (although the ones I ordered about a week ago are still out there somewhere, even though PayPal has my money).
Sorry to be mean - just frustrated that my favorite strip is going away and I feel like I’m being cheated out of the last bunch of strips. Does this mean the storyline will be ‘reduced’ to make up for the lack of strips? I’m guessing this won’t be a Newhart ending.
And kindly ignore the griping from ingrates who don’t understand that free ice cream is free ice cream, even if it doesn’t arrive exactly when promised.
Purchasing a book/item from me does not entitle the buyer to anything more than that item. Regular updates of the comic has nothing to do with your buying power. I owe you nothing more than what you paid for.
Furthermore, no one, to my knowledge, held a gun to your head and made you pull out your wallet to purchase something from me.
If you have not received your order, or would like a refund because you are tired of waiting, I have mentioned several times on my blog that you need only email me at corey@fakerockstar.com and I will find your order and/or happily issue a refund.
FURTHER furthermore, no one is forcing any of you to read my comics. If it’s such a pain to have to revisit a website for sporadic updates, why do you do it? Is it so you have something to complain about? When I hate doing something, I stop. But that’s just me.
Read or don’t read, frustrate, fume, cry, whatever. It will not change the way I go about my workday.
I told myself I wouldn’t engage in this idiotic debate any longer, but I feel like these comments are starting to hit below the belt and needed to be addressed. I find it hard to believe that any of you with and an axe to grind over my comics would have the brass pearls to say these things to my face. The anonymity of the Internet seems to sometimes breed cowardly and cruel people.
FURTHER FURTHER furthermore, it’s just a silly comic strip. Get over yourselves already.
Perhaps people tune in to be part of the ridicularity(tm). ‘Barkeater Lake, the world’s first interactive, 5th dimensional comicstrip.’
Hey Corey, maybe you can archive this melee and feature it in an extended volume of BL. Think of it as the bonus footage of a DVD. People love that crap.
I’ve stayed out of this, but like everyone else, I’ve been checking the website for new panels and have been frustrated when they weren’t there. But y’all, we aren’t three year olds - frustration isn’t going to damage us or cause irreparable harm. I can’t believe the mean-spirited slams against him, full of some weird sense of entitlement.
Really, take the cork out, lose some of the hot air and ego and find a way to enjoy the last little bit of the Barkeater Lake ride!
Thank you, Corey, for all the entertainment you bring us and I look forward to any and all of it, whenever you choose to post it. Good for you standing up for yourself; now just forget those sad people; they wouldn’t be happy if you sent them $100. Most of us who enjoy your talent never post comments (this is my first and last). Good luck to you and your family! :)
My gawd some of you! What, you think Corey owes you his life or something? Yes I wish Barkeater Lake would go on forever, but it’s not my call, and it sure ain’t yours! But then some people b i t c h just to hear themselves talk because they think other people want to hear them too. Stop reading, go away, let the rest of us enjoy what’s left!

If you’re ever in the neighborhood, look me up; I’d enjoy meeting the guy who created a world of characters who feel like neighbors and whom nobody wants to say goodbye to. You bring the beer, I’ll bring the brass pearls.
I’m about a pound and half into the bacon flu here, I think. I do have some comics drawn and if I can hold down a meal, I’ll get them colored and posted.
Yes, he’s a liar. He says things he knows are not true when he says them. How can one be sure? Because he has done it again, and again, and again, and again….etc.
He knows when he says these things that he’ll not follow through
Where I come from that’s a danged lie. And if Pandolph doesn’t like it, too bad. He shouldn’t keep making promises he has no intention of keeping. As for this being the internet, no problem, if he wants to “talk” it over one-on-one I’m game, but I doubt he’ll want to try on a retired Ranger for size, even if I am only 45% of the man I used to be.
I’m still in the throws of a flu/cold/ickiness, but I have an idea. And idea that might save Barkeater Lake and my sanity.
I need to work out the details and talk to some folks about making it possible, but I think my idea may work. I’ll try and get you details this weekend or Monday morning.
I have Elderberries deadlines today, but I’ll do my best to get some new comics up today, as well. No “promises” tho.
Hey hawgowar, isn’t this like, the 10th time you’ve threatened to leave/stop reading/said goodbye? If you’re coming back to merely accuse, I’m sorry. You must feel really sad. I do hope you feel better someday.
Once again, just a silly comic here. Not curing cancer, not saving health care. Writing jokes and drawing pictures.
And anyone that has to drag out his “ranger” background and bottom the dialogue out into physical threat and bluster isn’t worthy of anything other than being flagged.
Hang in there, Corey. There’s a classic Peanuts strip rerun in Newsday today. The whiners would do well to read it.
Charlie Brown: We’re all out of dog food. How about a little bread and milk.
[Snoopy atop his doghouse gets mad]
CB: Getting mad won’t help
[Snoopy atop his doghouse starts crying]
CB: Neither will crying.
Snoopy (thinking): Okay, bring on the bread and milk.
Feel better. While I do hope Barkeater Lake ends with some closure, I’ve lived through Liberty Meadows just shuffling off without it. Life goes on, and I mostly just wish that you will get your deserved break and be able to make a good living as a cartoonist. Feel better soon, and enjoy NYC.
The apologist would also do well to notice that Charles Schultz rarely missed deadlines. He also rarely ever blamed his fan base for his problems.
On the other hand I agree with Coach Chass that the flu sucks and I understand why he doesn’t get much work done.
It’s just a shame that the strip will end this way.
Thanks for all (mostly) well wishes. I’m feeling better and am back at the drawing table this morning.
The big news is that Barkeater Lake is ending, but it’s not. It will continue, along with TOBY and ENVY in a new format. I’m still working out the details with GoComics and my warped brain, but once we set it all in stone, I’ll divulge the details.

P.S. TimeTraveler- I didn’t know you knew Charles Schultz personally. Also, I never claimed to place blame on my fans for my short comings, I just lament the way a lot of folks show their frustrations. The career holes I have dug for myself rest squarely on my own shoulders.
P.P.S I bet Schulz blamed his fans for a whole lot of things, just not publicly. Of course, I never met the man.
Monday comics and a FRS Monday update are on the way…
Beginning October 19th, TOBY, BL and Envy will run under one comic name: the ANGRY EYEBROWS comics concern. ANGRY EYEBROWS for short. I’m still hashing out how the weeks will shake out, but basically, you’ll all get the three strips of the Fake Rockstar universe and I’ll only have to worry about essentially one comic a day, as opposed to three (I do Elderberries a week at a time, per the syndicate).
I cannot tell you all how excited I am about this idea. The fact I get to keep doing a three comics, but will be afforded the time to develop other projects and not feel like the free (but great) work is ruling my life.
More to come tomorrow. I’m working on new comics as I type!

How aptly correct, Pandolph. I read no more of ANY of your strips and will not buy any more merchandise.
A man who is a liar cannot be trusted in business dealings.
Online comics are not FREE ice cream, they are advertising, like Sesame Street is not “free”, it is merely advertising for an empire of merchandise.

How about something like the old “NBC Mystery Movie” series (McCloud, Columbo, McMillian) where several shows were featured in rotation.
M-BL, W-Toby, F-Envy. Just place them all under a common title.
We still get strips on M,W,F and everyone gets a little taste each week. One Sunday each month you could throw us some Chipmunks.
Be safe and hope all is well.
PS - I would love to see BL get back to it’s roots but it is your baby.
