There are guys like you out there and I am not one of them. My wife and I are both foodies. For the 4th of July we were having her brother, his wife and my wife’s mother over for dinner. Between the two of us we spent the better part of the day cooking. We called them as it was getting late and they informed us that they had decided not to come as they had changed their minds. Needless to say, we felt pretty slighted and with lots of leftovers.
cleokaya, oh how rude of them! We’re foodies to and know hardly anything better than to try something new, maybe from an exciting place of the earth. I’d hate being married to someone like John, lacking the excitement to try new dishes. How boring always to eat the same old things!
Just yesterday I was chatting with a friend on whether or not Dogs have taste buds. I thought they would since they have such a great sense of smell. She thought they didn’t since they chowed down their food so fast.
I looked at her & reminded her how she always eating her food so fast. I would be half finished with my plate of food and she’d have to wait for me to finish (blamed it on having to eat fast so she could have 2nds before other members of her family). So did that mean she didn’t have taste buds too. Got THE LOOK for that remark ;-))
Love this comic strip - I’m voting to give John a bowl of Kibbles & Milk.
I’ve often wondered if our cats get bored eating the same thing day in and day out. Two of them like to mooch from our table if we want to give them something but the other is content with his cat food. We never give them wet cat food, only dry.
As for my husband sometimes I think he could eat bacon and eggs for breakfast and spaghetti for dinner every day and be happy.
If we eat the leftovers, will we lost the flavors after we eat the leftovers? I think sometimes the leftovers still have the flavors, but on other side, sometimes it loses the flavors.
hildigunnur - I believe it adds so much to the marriage if you are a foodie, to have a partner that is as well. For us, life is a great food adventure.
Elly, be thankful he doesn’t want gourmet cooking. So much easier for you! It’s when they tell you they’re tired of what you make that you have to worry. (And maybe tell them to cook it themselves!)
Wildmustang, I think it depends: anything in a sauce may marinate and become more flavorful, and sometimes spicy foods improve too. But if it’s plain to start it’ll probably get plainer.
cleokaya : ouch , that was totally in bad taste, at least your family could have called, i have relatives like that too, they tell you they will be at your place at a certain time and show up an hour to an hour and a half late.we have decided when we invite them , tell them to be at our place at least 2 hours before we are actually going to eat and now they are on time
If you never try something new you’ll never find new favorites. Compromise with one or two nights a week. You know there is such a thing as new comfort food recipes :)
Case in point, I found an awesome new garlic and herb roast pork from Giada and super decadent swiss scalloped potatoes from Emeril not too long in the past. AND they’re super easy. Wahey.
You should just put all those leftovers in the freezer. Then next time they come over to your place expecting a lovely dinner, be sure to serve them the reheated leftovers from the 4th of July. (Just make sure you prepare something fresh and awesome and mouthwatering on the night for you and your wife though, lol)
;-)
Cleokaya, I had something similar happen on Thanksgiving a few years back. They will never be invited back of course. Sometimes it’s best to find better dinner companions.

Simplicity can be best.
And I think they’re probably all guys, too, those that could eat the same thing day in and out.
Oh and me.

Never say how bad a meal is to the cook, otherwise you might end up wearing your meal and be forced to cook next time.

Don’t forget how young they really are my husband was the same when we first married. Later he enjoyed everything I made.

I think we all have something we do not care to eat. Spicy or bland. Comfort food is the best.

A compromise might help: some familiar and something new.

what i like about it is that Elly doesn’t have to say a word. the humourous comparison is right there.

As a security guard, I can relate - my co-workers and I ate pizza 8 or 9 times in a 14 day period L

Dogs do have taste buds, but only about one-sixth as many as humans do. Scroll to the bottom of this page:
