Complete waste of a day. There’s bleeep in here from weeks ago.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE BONNIE!!!!
Snotpickers Grab bag - Does the “dog” have a zipper for a mouth?
As an aside, Large Dogs are not the best bet. Dogs that bark or will alert you to an intruder are best. Your poodle could do this. My neighbor has a Rottweiler and if you feed him, he’ll help you carry the 60” Plasma out the door.
Well while we wait for the Circus to come to town let me note that those charges will have a difficult time “sticking”.
The only witnesses to the “shooting” and the “discussions” are Tracy, Big Ace and his two henchmen. One of the latter is dead, so TWO remain to testify on a version of what happened to Tracy’s unsuported explanation. Tracy carried money there to gamble, and he suggested they do Big Ace is likely NOTt to have a record. With Tracy taking the game and gambit to Big Ace it looks heavily like what it really IS ! Entrapment ! No evidence ! Not Guilty !
And there are” two” to tell one version, and only Tracy to relate the other. Who will the two say drew a gun first ? Looks like, Sorry, Not Guilty !
These are the facts that cover the “shaky” case Tracy has, and it was all loosely devised and structered by our esteemed Author. And he expects these cannons without gun “powder” to fire ?
Hey B.O! What’s this “portion” supposed to mean? Your “portion” is $750,000.00.
As far as the big dog goes, you might need 3/4 of a mil on cleaning expenses, vaccuum bags for the dog hair, a front end loader for picking up all the poop, and $100/mo for feed. Ditto on the 60” plasma helper. The extra help would cost ya one dog biscuit.
I’ll second Ridenslide’s advice on the dog. I had a small dog, a mix between a schnauzer and a chow. He would bark like crazy if anyone approached the house. One night, some drunk knocked down a sign on the nearby highway and every time somebody drove over the sign he would bark. I had to go out and move the sign. (He was alert that night for sure. The noise produced by people driving over the sign sounded like somebody putting a ladder up against the building.)
Wow, a crimestopper tip that makes sense! @ large dogs is even better, running the German Shepherd, Great Dane defense here, backed up by a sweet S&W .357
I can’t tell if the crimestoppers tip is emphasizing that a large dog is better (like versus a small dog), or it is your best bet over other conventional forms of security, like closing and locking the door?
If I get a large dog, can it NOT be rabid and have a zipper for a mouth (good one rideandslide!) like the one in the drawing?
Tennessee, I’m with you. Most serial comics these days manage to keep a good story line going as well as provide well done art. I’ve only been reading many of the older comics for a few years now, but I really enjoy them. All except for Dick Tracy. I know that there is a reason this comic has been around for decades, but based on the evidence I’ve seen here I can’t figure out why.
I’ve come to believe that what we see in the strip is a reflection of what goes on in the “mind” of the Author. Those tragedies in Dick Tracy, the foibles, the trial balloons, the uncertainties on which way to go forward (or backward) are all mirrowed from Dick Locher’s mind.
Sadly, indelably, it remains for “all time”, a visable record of incompetence. That’s the horrow of Archinves for the “Dick Lochers” of this world, A wonderland of juicy “tit bits” for the next researcher like Jay Maeder to nail up on the historical board … and yes there will be some “design triumphs” (“sparks” of near genius) acknowledged, but tempered against an overpopulated background of pedestrian mediocrity.
Who will remember that he won a Pulitzer Prize a long time ago ? With career “legacy” considerations just ahead, It’s his work on DICK TRACY (another man’s creation) that will evoke the “recognotion” factor and fan memories for good or bad.
No one (or team) was EVER going to be another Chester Gould but he could have been a Leslie Turner (Capt. Easy), or even a miracle like Dean Young who was innovative and astute enough to know WHAT to “keep”, and WHAT to “change” !
Both had the good fortune to inherit ICON strips. Yet, their “results” have been Poles apart ! Locher will mull over the differential in good “fortune” (“bankable” and in kudos) during his retirement years. Unlike is colleague “Leslie”, he took the wrong “Turn” !
It’s something of a tragedy when the way “forward” is on another man’s horse, and inadvertently you forget the “spurs” and “bridle” and fit on the “wrong” saddle !
Edward Nuremoh too thought “change” was the way out !
Guys, it’s not that complicated. There’s really only one little mistake here….
*Rogue cop goes into (presumably legal) casino carrying a briefcase full of money. (Reports of the amount of money in the briefcase vary, but presumably an accurate count will be made before this comes to trial. Unless that money is like the stones at Stonehenge that can’t be counted….)
*Rogue cop proposes a bet with the casino manager. (Also presumably legal, as long as all applicable taxes are paid.)
*BUT then the rogue cop CHEATS. And ADMITS he cheated.
*When casino employees object to his cheating, he shoots one of them, and brandishes a gun at the others and takes the money.
*Finally, the rogue cop gets arrested, for larceny, attempted murder (can’t call it murder until we determine the victim is dead), armed robbery, etc.
*That one little mistake: the drawing of that last scene isn’t so great. It looks like it’s someone else getting arrested, not the rogue cop. Maybe the artist isn’t very good at drawing recognizable characters….
Cougar,
Good listing of the facts but I’m willing to bet, “double or nothing”,(whatever that means) that a ”trial” in this case will NEVER be seen in the strip or heard about again
This item will join the other Deus Ex Machina sequences in Locher’s studio, held securely in one of Al Gore’s locked boxes, until trial in camera.
Sydney! You’re a “genius” here! That seals it, I’m buying a genius account. Also, you have SPOTS as your avatar. VERY AWESOME. I was trying to decide what I’d use, and Ogden is definitely my choice.
Hey Randy !
You’re putting a little too much “polish” on the Spots. But it makes me feel like Dick Tracy, walking out with that stuffed briefcase, with …. ???? How many million ? Locher just couldn’t make up his mind.
Yet, there is a guy here who thinks he is a genius. I’ll be looking out for the Ogden avatar.

What’s coming to town? Another idiotic non-sensical story, of course!
GO AFTER SOME REAL CRIME ALREADY!
Yes, get a big dog. Unless big dogs scare you. But that’s just silly. I mean, that one in the tips section is just ADORABLE…

What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Missing a few words, maybe?

His name is Killer, but he’s really sweet and wouldn’t harm a fly.
Meanwhile, Tracy’s long lost child will be putting in a token appearance.

I think half the characters here are speaking to me, and not someone else in the strip.

I hope the next one has more promise (though I can’t recall even one in recent years that was worthwhile.)
