Yep, Upton has converted–much like the 16-year-old (in 1913) who wanted to mock a visiting pastor, but due to his very idea of practical-joke wound up converted!

stringmusicianer - yep, and Upton will still find himself thinking like a thief. Catholics call the civil jail sentence “temporal punishment” and the still twisted personality “concupiscence”, or “the stain of sin”. But Divine forgiveness of the “guilt of sin” is the first step to washing out the stain. The temporal punishment can be an agent in removing the stain when born with the right attitude. In jail, you can learn more crime - but you can also learn skills to turn your life around.

WILL THIS STORY LINE NEVER END?

We do know that this current storyline is not politically correct, right? Good for Jim! Nice to see someone not afraid to show that there’s salvation and redemption in the word of God!

For those of you offended by this story, just practice what Christians are always being told to do regarding violence, sex and profanity on TV.

augh, I stated that Upton was converted by his own sermon (just as N. Daniel wound up converted by his own attempt at practical-joke); I didn’t say anything about Ramona being converted (and as Upton pointed out, she isn’t).

I was trying to transform the Upton O. Goode=> up to no good name by supposing a middle name: Upton Olney Goode=> up to only good. Upton will need to have a name that reflects his new nature! It seemed like a good idea at 6 a.m.

I’ll agree with that. Jim is showing courage in tackling a religious theme in today’s world. I think the story is a notch below the classic and charming Earl and Gertie saga, but still very enjoyable and thought-provoking (as the mostly interesting comments attest).

And I agree, it’s not as good as Earl and Gertie, but it is admirable to use a religious theme. And Jim sure is provoking a lot of adolescent comments with the presentation of the female character.

No, Jan Ramona’s tears aren’t those of repentance–she’s only crying because she will soon be having rather cramped accomodations, strict diet and crimped-on schedule typical of prisons.
