Knute: "There's Gunther. Go see if he thinks you're me" Crystal: "Yo, Gunth! Dude" Gunther: "Oh, hi, Crystal" Knute: "Hey, if she's Crystal, who am I?" Gunther: "Knute, of course" Knute: "Guess you can't fool a guy who makes costumes" Crystal: "What's wrong with ours?" Gunther: "Well, not enough curves there, too many here..."

More to the point, you can’t fool a GUY!

Wonder what inspired costume Gunther is cooking up…and who gets to wear it!
wiselad over 13 years ago
with Gunther there, makes it pretty much a fact that fictional Pittsville is a town of San Diego County or at least somewhere in Southern California
jerrymeza over 13 years ago
are we going to read the second issue of their comic book? “pen and notebook” (I know, I forgot the name) maybe that’s why he is there
jerrymeza over 13 years ago
wait a minute, we didnt get to read the first one

“Ah yes, the Wonder Twins… they do complicate matters, don’t they?”
Rockabore over 13 years ago
is it just me or did Crystal get extra padding in the front once Gunther made that comment?
Sisyphos over 13 years ago
Gunther the literalist cannot be fooled by mere costumes. He “sees” the underlying reality. And no one will deny that Crystal is curvier than Knute.

I like these two, Knute and Crystal. Like to see a spin-off comic of them.

..what do you call an angry cabinet?…a cross dresser…
vwdualnomand over 13 years ago
the spinoff might be one of those ones where they both like each other, but if they do say it, the strip ends…so, they will drag the strip out until the readers get fed up…then it will end. like sam and diane of cheers.

Gunther’s referring to the REAL Crystal’s Boo…., Oh You KNOW what He’s Referring to!!!
Mordock999 over 13 years ago
Ah, So. Gunther’s has NOTICED Crystal’s Lovely Curves. Good! Keep THAT up Gunth and You’ll be getting Crystal’s phone number next! NOT that You’ll DO anything with it of course, but STILL….,
StoicLion1973 over 13 years ago
I can see the ironic ? from an angle. Nice! So Crystal’s curves were enhanced to illustrate (no pun intended) the point?
wiselad over 13 years ago
“small press” means those who basically are “self published”; that are not published by a publishing company
doverdan over 13 years ago
Since this is a comic, the ComicCon may be in Iowa, or in SanDiego, Texas. Anyway it’s near to Pitsville. .Knute did the comics that he and Gunth put out, Paddy and Penn, I think. So this may be their booth, and why Knute had tickets in the first place.
doverdan over 13 years ago
Knute makes one ugly girl. Padding would not help.

FIRST!

I don’t think you’d be able to see the curves through clothes that baggy. you don’t even see my curves through clothes much less baggy than that, cartoons exaggerate.
DeGrootingforLuann over 13 years ago
All I know is that now that Gunth’s on the scene someone will be looking FABULOUS!
wiselad over 13 years ago
going by the bikini scene, Knute is not curvicious, but if he had used strategic pads, he could have been able to do the allusion of curves, as he is somewhat thin

They ran into Gunther and he knows who they are.
mikecronis over 13 years ago
Unusual for them to dress androgynously at a comicon. More the artist’s fancy than reality here, but it’s okay.

Complaints about Brad and Toni arcs, now complaints about Knute and Crystal getting an arc. What do you want, Luann alone? Would be more boring than Robinson Crusoe before Friday – and everyone knows an arc must at least last until Friday, if not Saturday!

Wow!

not to mention that lot of British always go outside with a fag ;) (Fag is cigarette for those who do not know)

It amazes me that people actually analyse a comic strip like there is actual meaning and human chacteristics behind it. I like Luann “The Comic Strip” but hey people…It’s a COMIC STRIP…..ya’ll need to get a virtual pet or something.
DeGrootingforLuann over 13 years ago
So getting back to the current Luann strip. . .Pittville must be somewhere in Southern California, possibly close to San Diego.

But won’t people at the convention just think they are transvestites since they ar not dressed as comic book characters ?
SusanSunshine Premium Member over 13 years ago
Sheesh, people! All three see each other every day at school. Are you trying to tell me you wouldn’t recognise a work colleague or next-door neighbor just because he/she was dressed as the opposite sex at a party??Many girls always wear clothes like Gunther’s, and no make-up, and no one thinks they’re male, much less a specific guy.And Knute’s outfit is FUNNY. He’s making no attempt to look like a transvestite. If you’re that easily fooled, stay away from San Francisco.

BTW I’ve worked at many events where people come in anything they like, no matter the actual theme. It’s just an excuse to wear a costume, appropriate or not.No one even blinks at the Romulans at the Renaissance fair or the Renn Faire costumes at a Star Wars con. They’ll do fine.
doverdan over 13 years ago
They somehow, someplace, switched a lot of articles of clothing. If a bra had been part, there could have been padding added.Only make Knute more repulsive probably.
doverdan over 13 years ago
This place, whether named San Diego or not, could be a suburb of Pitsville. We have no map of LuannLand.

Checking the Comic-Con web-site, I find this comment:
“On the main floor of the center, Luann cartoon creator and San Marcos resident Greg Evans was preparing for yet another Con experience at the National Cartoonist Society booth.”Based on that & the general consensus that Greg would place Luann’s town in an area familiar to him – together with the probability that it’s near San Diego, I believe we can safely state that the kids don’t have to travel far to the REAL Comic-Com.
Also, I think that tomorrow will place Luann, (and perhaps some other kids with the ones already there) at Greg Evan’s booth. Question is, will he follow Stephan Pastis’ example and draw himself in the gathering?

Imbaldeagle- I hope so! I play in SCA and many friends like to go from here (PHX) to Comiccon. I’ve been myself to local smaller events. That was when Cuddles was still here. All my costumes are SCA (lots of silk and beading) so I did not believe they would be appreciated by Sci Fi fans. I enjoyed great Sci Fi writing back in the 50s when I was in HS and even wrote a little. Movies have always been very poor quality and I still find any of them lacking! Asimov was always stellar and I liked a few obscure writers as well. Many did not do justice to the media (like one very popular who’s name eluds me).
vldazzle over 13 years ago
Yes, Susan- we also get “pirates” and “belly dancers” at SCA events (as well as newbies wearing old prom dresses as though they were period). Those “in the know” will try to advise any who listen about “proper garb”. We sometimes figure: at least they are making an attempt!
vldazzle over 13 years ago
And some people just want to be exhibitionists; I love having really authentic garb – especially my footwear that I can now create! This is why I don’t really care about ComicCon, because Sci Fi is not my cup of tea since HS days in the 50s
