Men, let this be a warning to youâŠat this time of the year do NOT show your internet shopping prowess then gloatâyou just might find yourself doing some unexpected travelling!
Hm..maybe Cathy could do the same with the inlaws.

Sounds like a good idea about doing it with the inlaws. Only donât ship them to another state, but another country.

Enough with the p.c. b.s. I DO NOT go âholiday shoppingâ, I go CHRISTMAS shopping. If people cannot handle that, let them read another cartoon and/or shop during the 4th of July holiday (a.k.a., Independence Day)

You said it mountaindieu! Have you seen the vid on youtube of Go Fish singing âChristmas with a Capital Câ? I think you would love it!

Just remember that, mountaindieu and ponygirl95, should you ever find yourselves among the minority in a land where Christmas is not recognized as any sort of holiday at all. Will you be equally willing to suck it up in, say, Japan, Israel, or Saudi Arabia? Or, if you ever go to Russia, are you going to chastize the people for celebrating Christmas on the wrong date (Christmas is celebrated AFTER New Yearâs Day in Russia, in accordance with the Orthodox calendar)?
Get over yourselves. Christians arenât the only ones who live in this country (and never have been), nor are they the only ones whose celebrations count.
And Happy Holidays, everyone! :)

Ponygirl, I LOVE Go Fish. Their Mom Song rocks my world, and Iâm not even a mom yet!
and Mountaindieu, I ALREADY do my Christmas shopping on the 4th of July. Beat the big rush, and all.

There is nothing wrong with respecting people who are non Christian and who do not celebrate Christmas. It is the Holiday Season. In fact, if you want to get technical about it, Jesus wasnât even born in December. They just picked that date to celebrate because it coincided with the Roman holiday Saturnalia and the Winter Solstice. So donât get on your high horse about âChristmasâ versus âHolidayâ. There is nothing wrong with respecting everyoneâs beliefs and traditions.

Thank you, legaleagle48. These people who get so uptight and defensive over this âWar On Christmasâ garbage (even a comic strip forum isnât safe from it anymore) ought to lighten up and take the Yule log off their shoulders. Thereâs more than one holiday observed in December; get over it. If youâre so selfish and petty that it spoils your Christmas because some people say holiday instead, you donât deserve Christmas anyway (which is supposed to be about peace and giving). Besides, it was the Christians who took December 25 away from the pagans, not the other way around.
Getting back to the comic strip itself (can we, please?), those gift cards of Irvingâs had better be pretty spectacular or heâs not going to have a very merry after Christmas.

Why are they married, again?

Even though I celebrate Christmas, I actually do Holiday shopping because I have friends and family that are Christian and Jewish. So maybe itâs just either laziness or a lack of space in a small comic.
pearlandpeach over 15 years ago
The tree is a Christmas Tree, not a holiday tree. If I am sending a card to my Jewish friends, I do make sure it does not say Christmas but it does not say holiday either.
Respecting allâs religion is knowing what they are celebrating and sending the correct card, if that is what they do .
jsellison over 15 years ago
Thereâre more than just Xtians and Jewish People. There are Muslims, Buddhists, and lets not forget our Atheist and Agnostic friends. Do you send the correct card for every group, when a Holiday Card covers all of your bases?

A bit off topic, those last few -
Irving seems to be on the cutting edge, according to news reports; Internet shopping on Black Friday was WAY up over last year; IIRC, about 3x or more.
And ITâS A COMIC STRIP, for cryinâ out loud! get Over It!

Cathy and Irving celebrate Christmas - hence they are Christmas Shopping.
If they were a Jewish couple, they would be Hanukkah shopping
EtcâŠâŠ
So why canât they say âChristmas Shoppingâ instead of âHoliday Shoppingâ ? - Itâs PC gone wild
RinaFarina over 15 years ago
Whatâs pcbs? Oh wait a minute, I think Iâve figured it out - yes, itâs a combination of pc and bs, right?
vickimarme over 15 years ago
ITâS CHRISTMAS SHOPPINGâŠ..NOT HOLIDAY SHOPPING. CHRISTMASâŠ..CHRISTâS BIRTHâŠ.WITHOUT IT, THERE WOULD BE NO HOLIDAY.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONEâŠ.DONâT FORGET TO GO TO CHURCH AND PRAY FOR ALL OF US HOLIDAY SEEKERS.
