In order to have that many pills, there has to be a forged prescription or two out there…

From yesterday: Det. Dan Done, as I understand it someone can be held for psychiatric evaluation for 72 hours. And while Tellum may not be clinically insane, he’s given Dick good reason to think he’s a danger to himself.

With the way Tellum is doped up, you’d think Dick would want some medical help to deal with him. Lots of nasty things could happen to Tellum now—convulsions for one, and choking to death on his own vomit.

Good story today, and great artwork.

As a long time fan of Dick Tracy (since the late fifties) the artwork, and storylines in this strip rivals Chester Gould’s. Congradulations to Staton and Curtis for saving Dick Tracy!

Cuff him, Tracy! And then take him in for questioning and medical/psychiatric observation. Tellum either ’fesses up or stews in the slam or a hospital/asylum.

On the other hand, there is no such crime on the books as “suspicion.” Unless of course you work for Homeland Security.

“You two -bit cop!”, the nerve of that guy. Irresponsible loud mouth thinking he’s powerful cause he’s on the radio. Walter Winchell ring a bell Teddy old boy?

Ya know when I see Tracy looking this good (second to last panel) I can’t help but think how cool an animated feature film or DVD would look.

A guy can dream, can’t he?

In Kentucky, it’s difficult to obtain an involuntary commitment based on drug-induced behavior, unless there is reason to believe that there is a non-drug psychiatric issue as well. Each state has different criteria, time lines, etc., related to these issues. I won’t bore you with further KY details.

Tellum’s office is NOT his private property, rather, it appears to be under the control of the station owner/manager, who gave implied permission for Detective Tracy to enter when he asked Tracy to speak with Tellem. Thus, no need for a warrant, so, no illegal entry.Tellem, acting out of normal character, ranting even more wildly than usual, popping pills in front of Tracy, a wide array of open prescription pill bottles on Tellum’s desk, reason enough to suspect illegal possession. Particularly if Tellum’s name is not on all of the bottles.

I asked the GoComics people last week, why the change in format from portrait to landscape. They haven’t answered me so far, even though I e-mailed them direct using the “help” link. It was so much nicer the other way, with larger panels and a perfect fit on an 8 1/2 × 11 sheet of paper.

Very nice attention to detail in panel 1 – they even put a ball of cotton (such as would be on the top of a pill bottle) on Tellum’s desk.

I couldn’t quite make out the bottom of the Empty Prescription Bottle in Panel 5. Is that Dr. Morgan? As in Rex Morgan, MD? tch tch tch… he should know better than to prescribe to a wingnut like Tellum.

No, it’s MAD’s RX Migraine. let me get this straight; You got 10 new and retro villains in and out of jail all supposedly working for this “MR. Crime.” A psychotic Amazon and her crazy nurse committing bare hands murders and possibly abusing a demented old man while plotting to blow something up, and Old Dick is all bent over some right-wing blowhard who might be taking some uppers?? Sounds like our Justice Department, ignoring forests for trees.

Let’s see now, Tracy talked to Mr. Schrecker the station manager. Tracy stated he would call on Tellum himself. So, Mr. Schrecker, who is the stations president, knew Tracy would be there. Tracy is at the radio station, a public office building, now. So he’s NOT there illegally. All the pills are in plain view so Tracy can make a warrantless arrest.I don’t think Tracy has anything to worry about.

“How are you going to record the Information on the hand held recorder?” I think the big thing is to record all the serial numbers on either paper or some sort of recordable media and most importantly to have off site storage, for example in a safety deposit box or even at a friend/family member’s house. The best way is to treat this like any other sort of computer data and store it in multiple sites including an online storage site.

As Tracy noted, the door was open. In addition, the prescription bottles are all out in plain sight. Tracy doesn’t need a warrant under those circumstances, while having everything out in plain view supplies the probable cause he needs to arrest Tellum. And I agree with those who believe that at least some of those prescriptions were obtained illegally, as does Tracy, or he wouldn’t be slapping the cuffs on Tellum. Abuse of prescription drugs is a big and rapidly growing problem in this country.

    @mumbles:

At this point, Tracy doesn’t yet KNOW about the ten or so villians being recruited by Mr. Crime. WE know because this strip is told in 3rd person, meaning the reader sees things that the protagonist does not see. Likewise, he is investigating the two murders, but has not yet made the connection to Morning Gloria and Mina. “Meanwhile, on the other side of town…” was a devise that Chester Gould used quite often. Stay tuned…

You, it’s reminiscent of the Rush bust. Did Tellum also have a pimple on his butt which required massive illegal doses of prescription pain killers?

Next— Tellum gets to share a jail cell with Mumbles andthat other guy who repeats everything he says. I might likethis version of Tracy better than Chester Gould’s! I alsowant to see more of Honey Moon — she’s a cutie with thosemanga eyes.
