What a touching surprise! I feel kind of sorry for Mina, since she has clearly been exploited by cousin Morning Gloria. Note that Lizz is very surprised (panel 3) as well.
It is funny and clever, but what would the comments have been if Locher had used that same trick? I know that the guys have built up the fact that this lady doesn’t have much in the brain department, and I know they’re in a hurry to finish, still…
Gotta love the look on Liz’s face in the last panel.
I don’t know your secret identity, but Shelley, Shane and Jim all contribute much more than theit “credited” jobs. Jim gave me a nice idea for next February. Shelley did some added dialogue last week I liked. She also adds art details. Shane doesn’t get as much attention, but he’s a talented artist and writer as well. Which is why every Sunday there’s 5 names.________________________________________
Thanks, Mike. When I first started this business was very different. The fact that Shelley does her “inking” on her computer would blow the minds of Caniff or Capp or anyone from those days.
This move on the part of Liz hearkens back to Chet Gould. Chet Gould knew how to let us into a villain’s mind and understand his/her motivations. Dick Locher never had a clue what Dick Tracy was all about, nor, apparently, did he ever care about the strip. Under Dick Locher’s leadership (or lack thereof) I’m surprised the strip wasn’t cancelled. Locher must have had his nose wayup somebaody’s rear end to last as long, and as incompetently, as he did.
A GIFTED mini sequence there (Mike). And more kudos to the character for using it. That sort of novel thinking (writing) has been missing from the strip since Gould retired in 1977.It speaks volumes on Mina’s pay grade and seems ‘right in character’ given the way she was ‘used’ by Doc Codd back in 1940
Readers appreciate that special “feel” for characterization, those little nuances tells us the Writer has carefully done his **’**homework ’
Only adjustment needed is “story length”. Readers no longer have that ‘well loved’ CHASE sequence that Gould used to great advantage. I’m sure that’s TMS **’**misreading ’ what the strip needed.
Moving ON – quickly- is a good strategeyonly when you have a clunker on you hands (like that 2009 Circus tale). I’d like to think those dull stories (without interesting characters) are behind us now.
The only states to still call them LVN’s are California and Texas, they are LPN’s everywhere else. Assuming she is in Illinois, Mina would have to have gone through this. What is really scary is the licensing of RT’s. You know the person who takes an X-Ray of your body parts. In some states there is no requirement of any license at all, in short Mina is qualified.
All joking aside, I think this new team is doing a great job on this strip. When was the last time we saw Tracy and one of his team in a knock down, drag out fight like this? I don’t miss Chester Gould a bit!

Hey! Liz(z) is a seasoned “public employee” – right? She knows how to work the system both ways! (No offense Det.s Dan and Doherty!)

If Liz was fighting a battle of wits she was fighting against an unarmed opponent!

Quick thinking, Lizz! Now give her the tenner, give her a yo-yo to keep her occupied, and go help Tracy.

Putting the “comic” back in comic strip!

Anyone that know my background know that I started in comics at Harvey. Any resemblence between Nurse Mina and Baby Huey is coincidental.

Yep, this is in Chicago. Guaranteed! Except Rahm will get his 10%. Mina won’t notice it, though.
