maybe if our young skulls full of mush were not getting evolution pounded into their craniums, and could concentrate on how systems actually operate and can be used for our benefit, and quit trying to justify a philosophy that is far from science, as evolution as regarding origins of life is neither testable or falsifiable, maybe our students would fare better in the workplace and in college environments

Remember the storyline where Danae sees some sign extolling gratitude (or was she watching a broadcast?) and she starts saying “You’re welcome!” to the entire world? Same song, different verse..Danae twists concepts to mean what she wants them to mean, and the center of all meaning to Danae is Danae. “Gratitude” registered in her brain as celebration of others’ veneration of Danae..Where did she get the meaning of “religion” wrong? Simple: actual religions attempt to explain stuff. There is no metaphysics to Danaeism. Its rules can be broken down into three: a) obey Danae, b) venerate Danae, c) have fun unless your fun is getting in Danae’s way..A subset of a), illustrated by the post-WWII dinosaurs myth, is profession of arbitrary doctrine that Danae doesn’t believe herself but invented just for the purpose of bullying people. That’s something else you don’t find in actual religions.

Art Bell? That’s good! I really want to know and meet some of that “they” group sometime. You know, the ones that Bell and some others always talk about. “They” are watching and controlling everything we do. “They” are really smart. But who are “they”? Nobody seems to know.

I know just which “member” of the “media” would give Danae unlimited air-time! The chief pinhead would have his producer stalking the principal for an ambush interview which would then be fairly unbalanced in the spin cycle of the no fact zone..

Yee-haw! Rick Perry for president and Danae for v-p!Seriously, this week’s strips are funny for only a few seconds, and then reality creeps in, and you remember that there are a lot of people trying to do that very thing; sort of a home-grown Christian Taliban who have the guns but aren’t shooting (yet).

I wonder if Wiley is doing a clever play on the subtle but important distinction between “alternative” and “alternate”? Just a thought…..And here’s another: let her have her platform, and show everyone, in exhaustive detail, just what a pompous, self-deluded little nit she is. It could be an excellent teachable moment for the class: the Socratic approach to discovering the truth. (Not that any real-world public school teacher could do that, of course. They have a curriculum to maintain, tests to teach to, and governmental benchmarks of educational attainment to achieve.)

I remember 4th grade when the principal had a paddle on the wall, which he was allowed to use on those rare occasions when the “promise” wasn’t enough. It was also a time when teachers were educators and not politicians pawns, threatened and “punished” alternately from all sides if “little Billy” didn’t learn, because he and his parents were idiots. Danae on the other hand is quite intelligent, manipulative, and “ethically challenged”. She expects to get her way, and with the “media” on her side, just may.

I’m waiting for Danae to discover alternate mathematics, but I would bet that she won’t like Non-Standard Arithmetic. It has even more rules than regular arithmetic. Regular readers may remember that Danae once rejected gravity as blasphemy, and went floating through the air.

Science is not just one point of view! On any given topic, there may be several different ideas that scientists have. E.g. global warming: many scientists say yes, many say no, and each side has lots of facts to back them up.

When someone comes up with an explanation of something, that explanation (hypothesis) is accepted so long as it fits all the known facts. If someone comes up with another hypothesis that fits better, the first one is dropped in favour of the second.

For example, the hypothesis that the sun moves round the earth and not the other way around. There do exist mathematical calculations that support this. However, the calculations are so complicated that scientists prefer to look at it with the earth going round the sun.

Actually, the singular is medium (as in “The medium is the message”, which is false, but a reasonable example)
