It’s melancholy. Just melancholy, with no need to add “-ness.” It can function as a noun just like it is.

Mine, too. I hate it when the nights grow longer and colder. Let there be light and warmth!

Up in Alaska durning the winter ,they amuse each other by staying drunk, stabing or shooting each other. They also shoot all road signs. There is no way you can read any road sign, ever.

This is Australia, and its evening, and the daylight hours (note careful wording) are certainly getting longer. Most kids love to jump in the leaves – Jeffrey really is strange.

Never, ever try to console a melancholy female with logic. It’s both pointless and dangerous to your physical well-being. A little sympathy, understanding, and a well-timed hug is more effective- and feels better too, in both the long and short term. A flannel shirt and some padding can’t hurt, either.

@ Mad KangaWhen our son was small, I thought it was great fun for him, our dog, and I to romp in the leaves. And then my wife pointed out to me what animals do in those leaves.Reeeeeally took the fun out of it.Maybe my wife had a talk with Jeffery, too.

I lived on the equator for three years, and found it to be missing something – No long, cold, crisp nights, or being able to mow your yard at 8-9pm. The only respite came when the dry and wet seasons began. It was a refreshing change… for a while…

As we approach perihelion (next in 2012-01-05), the angular velocity of Earth relative to the Sun decreases, so the days measured by the apparent movement of the Sun are getting longer. The sidereal day is getting steadily longer because of tidal drag.

1.Jeffery isn’t a smart ass he is just excited to share his knowledge. To some, especially those that are not all that smart, it hurts there little feelings BOHO and they lash-out with little comment like “no one likes a smart ass” instill test time and then they are your best friend

I am in agreement with Danae. I hate to see the leaves turn from colors of gold and red to brown and fall from the trees. I hate the cold weather but I love the snow. Everyone have a nice day.

I say day, and night, all the time. Day light hours? Seriously? People don’t get confused. Obtuse know it alls, on the other hand, have to have their say, otherwise they’d never be invited to a conversation.

And it doesn’t matter. People understand exactly what Danae is saying and will tend to find him an arrogant little know-it-all. Been there, done that, been dumped int he leaves for it.

The truly crazy part of Christmas in Summer in Australia is that everyone puts up all the Winter styled decorations and fake snow! Surely after all this time those from the Land Down Under can come to terms that there will never be a Frosty the Snow Man for them. 6 White Boomers, on the other hand…

Don’t mind cold, don’t mind leaves falling — DO mind losing the daylight. Hate it when the sun sets before I get out of work at 5:00 pm. Why can’t we stay on daylight saving time all year???
