Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Doomed To Repeat In the early 2000s, when we launched the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, we thought we were fighting World War II. We'd been sneak-attacked, and we were invading with a huge group of allies in an epic struggle against existential evil. We would march along, defeating the enemy and taking major cities until peace treaties were signed... Man: Uh, excuse me. You're fighting the wrong war. You're really fighting the 1970s' Vietam War, an endless morass, flailing against an ideology and guerilla tactics. IRAQ Well, when the late 2000s recession hit, we thought we were fighting the 1970s recession. The enemy was looming inflation that would cripple our economy. Gasoline FOR SALE 555-1234 So, we kept our monetary policy tight, and adopted austerity measures that would combat the deficit and inflation... Man: Uh, excuse me. You're fighting the wrong war... BROTHER CAN YOU SPARE A DIME? Continued and continued...

That Magnavox TV is a tad retro. They should max out their credit cards and buy a big flatscreen.

“That Magnavox TV is a tad retro.”So’s the gas pump with it’s price on rotary wheels
Deliberately so. The main panels reflect the delusion and the male characters who appear represent the “correct” era, which they allude to.
So first, we see “WWII” scenes. corrected by an early seventies dude. Because Americans thought Afghanistan was WWII, but it was actually Vietnam.
Next, we see seventies scenes – corrected by what seems to be the same character, but now a 1930’s homeless man. Because, according to the cartoon, the US government treated the 2008-present recession as similar to the seventies recession, when it is actually more similar to the 1930’s depression.

>“That Magnavox TV is a tad retro.”>So’s the gas pump
You mean the guy with the Bay City Rollers hair in the purple leisure suit, the 70’s font used for Iraq, the gas pump, adding machine, daisy motif, TV and all the clothes and hairdos weren’t enough to indicate we are reliving the 1970’s?
