Let me be the first to wish everyone Happy Halloween! Very definitely ought to be a national holiday! I remember asking my boss on my first job outta school if we got off for Halloween. I don’t think I lasted very long there. But that was 50 years ago; things changed since then.
A query for anyone who can answer. I followed Dick Tracy when it was still published in a newspaper I got but there is a long gap in the history from when they stopped printing it and now. I know Moonmaid was killed but what became of her daughter?
@Kadyriath: Yer looking at her! Honeymoon Tracy is actually the child of Junior and the late Moon Maid; note the strategically placed tufts of hair. ;)
Love that Dick is reading the “Police Gazette” … it’s that kind of attention to detail that separates the new Dick Tracy strip from the other strips. Please note that Joe always gives us a background that helps establish location and atmosphere.
How many story arcs are running now? It reminds me of that classic promo—Tracy facing a score or so of his most famous villains, Gould off to one side, pen in hand, saying “I just wanted to see how you would handle them all at once.”
Just one thing: unless someone has revived the title, Tracy is reading a 35 year old magazine. The American publication, “The National Police Gazette” ceased publication in 1977, and the British “Police Gazette” has also ceased publication.
Ordinarily, that would be true. But, Jr’s relationship with Tracy was by no means ordinary. He was a street kid, rescued from a life of crime by Tracy way back when Tracy was single, and everybody called him by his last name. When Jr. started to admire Tracy for what he stood for, calling him “Tracy” was actually a term of endearment and respect. The tradition goes way back to the early days of the strip. Even Pat Patton, and later, Sam Catchem, called him Tracy most of the time, although he called them Pat and Sam. It’s just one of the little things started by Chester Gould that gives the strip its’s unique feel.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!! Yesterday’s advice on copying sensitive documents is good practice -HOWEVER - Many of the copiers out there are now storing copies on a hard drive that can be downloaded by someone else – and that someone could be an identity thief!!!!!
Reminds me of the mummified desperado they accidentally found while filming “The Six Million Dollar Man”. They thought it was paper mache until the arm broke off.

Honeymoon is quite cool and collected for having a dismembered human hand in hers. She’s a Tracy all right!

Abner Cadaver is a “tribute” to the archvillain of the same name in Savage Dragon comics. See e.g. http://www.writeups.org/fiche.php?id=4104

Our hero didn’t do well as a father. It’s pretty disrespectful to let your child call you by your last name only.

Maybe Abner Kadaver is relation to Pruneface or Mrs. Pruneface!
