Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for January 08, 2012
Transcript:
Newt Gingrich: Wonder if I should check some of this stuff... better not - the liberal media might rifle through it! Guard: Sorry, sir, this is too much personal baggage. Gingrich: What? Do you know who I am? Guard: You're that Gekko guy. Gingrich: Newt! And there's nothing of interest here! Guard: Who's this? Bag: I'm... Gingrich: Ignore her! I've been redeemed! Bag: Ha! Bag: Check out the dirty laundry! Guard: Pee-yew! Gingrich: Lies! All lies! As bad as Hitler's! Bag: Ha! Guard: What's in here? Gingrich: Nothing! Bag: Check out the parking lot scene... Guard: Oh, my God... that's disgusting! Gingrich: It's not what it seems! I was conducting a tutorial! Bags: Ha! Ha!

Thank you Iowa for defusing that bomb.

Scary thought. I wonder who might become a candidate if “None of the Above” are chosen.
rayannina about 13 years ago
It hasn’t quite fizzled out yet. Hopefully New Hampshire can finish it off.
Orion-13 about 13 years ago
Always strange that he never comments on President Obama’s nor the Democrats very, very many crimes, scandals, etc. Fannie Mae? (I like how he gave that one to Gingrich) Fast and Furious? Solyndra? etc. etc…Somehow it all seems so one-sided…

Whoa! does the truth ever HURT.
DylanThomas3.14159 about 13 years ago
Here’s to wondering if, in the views of RD64 and Orion-13, an attorney on one side or the other of a civil law suit is supposed to criticize his own client as well as the client of the opposing attorney . . . .

Best job I’ve ever seen of a comic depicting a TSO’s uniform. (I’ve been ironing them for five years …)
Except the tie goes with the long-sleeve shirt, not the short-sleeve.

He’s really just there for the personal searches. His problem is that no one wants to touch him.

Come on, Trudeau. Don’t be a weasel. Tell us what you really think about Newt.
Doughfoot about 13 years ago
Notice that the Con commenters have completely forgotten the savage way HBT treated Clinton, who was always portrayed as a waffle dripping syrup, who was constantly tweaked for his womanizing. The portrayal of Newt as a bomb goes way back. Of course, only in the mind of someone looking through a deep red lens could the so-called scandals of this administration be compared to the ones alluded to here, just as it takes a departure from reality to see Obama as anything but a centrist who has gone to great lengths to reach across the aisle. But since anything but abject surrender is not enough to please the GOP, Obama is called radical. Actually, I suspect that if Obama gave the GOP a blank check, they would still denounce him. Pity there isn’t one GOP hopeful who actually understands what it means to be living in the 21st century.

RE: Orion 13’s comment – from a merely numerical viewpoint (never mind the egregiousness of the offenses) the GOP should be considered a criminal conspiracy akin to the Mafia. The Dims, on the other hand are more like the street kid stealing apples off the pushcart.

a TSO officer that finds a “violation” disgusting….THAT’S HILARIOUS
Warren Wubker about 13 years ago
Trudeau would have some cred if have done a Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers or Tony Rezco or Frank Davis piece, but to always look the other way to those on the left, well, that pretty much puts him in Neverland and irrelevant.

DT, you are correct to imply that Trudeau has no obligation to be bipartisan. He is a cartoon writer, not a Supreme Court justice! That said, in fact I have been following Doonesbury long enough to know that he used to target the Dems often, and Im sure he still would if they deserved it even 1% as much as much as the GOP. Its really not his fault that the GOP was hijacked by bat-shit crazies who have not the slightest regard for objective reality. I used to be a Republican, when there were still decent responsible people leading the party. (Now they are referred to as “Rockefeller” Republicans, an extinct species.) Trudeau sure as hell as no obligation to target so-called “scandals” like Solyndra (even if it had been a scandal – which it certainly was not) as if they are comparable to Newt impeaching a president for having an affair, while he is doing the same. Orion-13 and others, I respectfully suggest that you consider the possibility that the parties are not equally bad, or even close, and in that case, do you feel that Trudeau should pretend that they are (like the rest of the media) in the interest of “fairness”.

Now my complaint to Trudeau: Gingrich is so last month. Is it not possible to be a bit more timely?
jay_dallas about 13 years ago
If the Republicans had brains – which is in extreme doubt judging from their candidate selections – they would promote Huntsman. Experienced domestically, as well as internationally, intelligent and electable.
DylanThomas3.14159 about 13 years ago
Actually, I think it’s delightful that reich-wing GOPpers can’t touch Trudeau on grounds of moral turpitude or lawbreaking. All they have is: “he doesn’t attack the other side” from theirs. After all, they themselves fail to attack Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or Bill O’Reilly or other such “one sided” observers of the national political scene. They don’t condemn them for being “one sided” and sparing other reich-wing GOPpers. This to me is evidence that God has put Trudeau on the planet for a purpose: to attack and expose evil as he sees it. And — write this down, fuzzy bears — reich-wing GOPpism is evil. For it threatens the wellbeing of 99% of the American people.

Thanx for the “heads-up” (OOOPS!) on the Kip Carter incident. Maybe this moment in the Arrogant Amphibian’s career will move up in the Google-verse like Santorum … “Giving a tutorial” … Genius!!!!

Dang, I hate all this dumping on Newt. He’s the GOP candidate I want to catch fire the most, but then again I’m not a Republican. As long as the GOPs don’t pay attention to Jay_Dallas, the future looks so bright for Obama that he’ll have to wear shades.

So glad Trudeau is still writing. There are few places to go for us non right-wingnut types any more. You go, Garry. I’m wondering why tthose who are in sympathy with the far right bother reading this strip anyway. Surely they are aware that he is a progressive! ??????

The simple fact is, surgical gloves alone would NOT offer sufficient protection for that dude’s baggage, full biological and radiological suit would barely suffice.Gathering up Newt’s lies would be like picking up spilled mercury with a toothpick.

Doughfoot about 13 years ago
Huntsman does seem like the only sane GOP candidate. But you can see how far he got. The first Republican who comes along who says that the left aren’t evil, just mistaken, I will listen to. But I can’t stomach bullies, and I can’t stomach Manichean rhetoric. So the GOP hasn’t anything to offer.
Potrzebie about 13 years ago
The candidate will surely be mittens, But I’m voting for Ron Paul in the primary here in the Old Dominion and to heck with their “loyalty” pledge!!!

Please back off, Mr. Trudeau. Let the Newt-and-Mitt show go on for a while. If you sink the knife into Newt now, you may be delivering Mitt-the-real-Gordon-Gekko-Romney to us for eight years.

Got no problem with having a point of view. Have a HUGE problem with folks pretending that they’re fair, or that they’re presenting a balanced point of view. If you’re gonna be the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party, more power to ya. Just be up front about it.Orion

More disgusting liberal hypocrisy from someone who should be drawing his absurdly biased political “cartoons” for leftist newspapers.
Oh, wait… he IS!
