As the Chicago fan [more than] once said, “Wait ’til next year!”Then you can play with the Milne Six! Now, we are only five: get thee to a kindergarten!
YAY, TERESA!!! Frog Applause is almost exactly as old as my youngest son and about three months younger than my pursuit of a doctoral degree—I know you’ll be around when my son (but hopefully not my graduate school career) turns 18…
Wanna hear something pitiful? Last night, my Outlook appointment notice popped up saying, “Frog Applause Anniversary.” I can’t believe I did that! How lame is that? Maybe Teresa hacked my Outlook calendar. Even lamer, I congratulated her a week or two ago by mistake. If I’m representative of the typical FA fan, FA is even lamer than Teresa claims. I think I’ll go make myself some cream of wheat for breakfast. That would make my lameness complete.
Sorry, Teresa. I tried to figure out the comic before reading you’ve done “Frog Applause” for five years. I thought it might have something to do with the 12 Days of Christmas lyrics,“4 calling birds” I DO LOVE YOUR WEIRDNESS though.
The gynnastics video displays the push that has turned sport from a display of enthusiastic talent to a win at all costs or be considered a failure. The winning of a silver medal is considered to be more devastating than winning a bronze, because it focuses the athlete to ponder the issues of following just short of achieving their dream. Whereas a bronze medal focuses the athlete on the relief in the fact that he or she got a medal.
As your official “love tester” (the serf who test-feels the love before Teresa is allowed to feel it), let me say… well, nothing. I don’t have permission to speak. Ah, what the heck. I will accept the punishment and say, Congratulations!
Well, this calls for a Firesign Theatre commercial from the 60s featuring the number 5.Sorry you have to see an ad for Battleship first, but it’s the best one I could find.
Teresa, Congratulations on 5 years of Frog Applause. I also have to thank Doc. Toon for recommending your strip a while back or I would never have found it. And thanks to Vlad too. He is doing a fine job of keeping people in line!
Five is my favorite number and Theresa’s Frog Applause is my favorite comic on the web. Thank you Ms Burritt for making some days a little more bearable.
Apparently the bombing was part of an effort by the Los Angeles Barbers Union to strongarm non-union barber shops into raising their prices to match union-approved levels. As to how far you can trust a single blog entry that takes a semi-humorous approach to the subject, YMMV.
I only wish the fellow had spelled “camaraderie” correctly…
The Pioneer Hotel picture moved me strangely… having grown up in New York in the 50’s, I can still hear the sound of steam hissing from a radiator valve, and the clunks and groans of the system throughout the building.
Re: the picture by WILLIAM-ADOLPHE BOUGUEREAU – I must say that I have seen that very image in more medical offices than I care to count. It is more ubiquitous than any other picture I have ever seen. I dare not hazard an explanation, other than it is a delightful painting. My ex chose it for her clinic, and I saw it daily for years.

The nice thing is that there’s no term limit on Frog Applause. I’ll do appropriately celebratory thing today!

Where would we be without our Froggy? Our lives would be dull,Our minds would be foggy.
We’d never know Vlad,And those lovelies, old and young. And Fishnet Fridays would have never begun.
We’d never know the joys of Ursula Martinez,See a naked Russian, naked fruit, a poster child,Or how to hold a book upon one’s BLEEP.
Teresa is our drug of choice,Our whimsical lass,Our daily voice.
