The āDoing Things The Easy Wayā reminds me of poster I saw a long time ago. it showed a similar maze, except the rat had bulldozed a straight path through the maze to the cheese. The caption was āThe object is āGet The Cheeseā, not āRun The Mazeā.ā
one of the most popular girls in H.S. would have put it, āany dickāl doā.. in after thought she really had a problemā¦ wonder how things turned out for her..
As another random bit of trivia, my mother was married to Whit Bissellās brother for a brief period. Iām sorry it didnāt work out, because it was one of the better years of my childhood in many ways. I recall meeting Whit on a number of occasions and he seemed like a very nice gentleman to an 8-year-old.
Those āHow and Why Wonder Booksā were really cool science books when I was in the first and second grade. They could explain the basics without talking down to you. And itās still amazing to think that some of the basics of science are so simple that a child can understand them.
I remember one example that showed two clowns with chairs. One chair was nailed to the floor and the clown was straining to lift it. The other chair had a feather on its seat and the clown had lifted it with ease. The book asked which clown was working, then explained that it was the clown who had raised the chair. Work is force over distance, and the other clown hadnāt made anything move.
