Always hated fishing. To satisfy my sons’ desire for grossness, we formed the WRS – Worm Rescue Society. After every rain, we’d go out & find all the worms in the puddles (there are always a lot & they are quite deep), fish them out and toss them into the grass. Don’t know that it did the worms any good, but the boys enjoyed it.
I quit fishing when I was about 14. Two solid years of drowning small creatures with absolutely zero return on the effort convinced me it was neither fun nor worth the aggravation.
Hey Earl… show Nelson how to stretch the rubberband between the thumb and forefinger like a slingshot and then draw back the crochet needle about 12"… don’t forget to cover the new holes in the drywall with the family portraits…. now where did that cat go…???
The day was too beautiful for fishing so I took the bait off the hook and threw the line out while popping a barley sandwich. A couple walked by and asked if I’d caught anything. I said, no…but then again, I’m not really fishing. They had a strange look on their face when they left!

I hafta try this with my grandson. I don’t like messing with worms or flies, either.

Once heard about a young Scott fisherman who married an old Irish bittie because he heard she had worms.

No worms or flies, but bits of mashed potatoes and popcorn kernals…

I thought fishing was an excuse to get out of doing work. Oh, and communing with nature. Except the part about killing the bait.

Absolutely, Nelson! Much less “ICK” factor.

Worms are not slimy. All my g’kids like bugs, worms, snakes, mud, anything messy. Always fun stuff at Grammy’s.

Grandpa actually poked himself and is holding back the tears.
