When Jeff shows the check to B.D. his jaw will drop like Wile E. Coyote’s.

I guess this settles the sequel question from yesterday. It also settles the question of GBT’s intentions towards Redfern. He’s successful…for now at least.

He does know that the publisher expects the money to be paid back? Either through sales or by him. I’ve known people who’ve gotten jammed up badly because of this.

Don’t get too excited, Jeff. An unadjusted gross income of approximately $515,000 (plus or minus $10,000 – estimates vary) would put you into the top 1% of income recipients. Yes, a good chunk of change, but after taxes, mansions with a view and the like will eat it up in a hurry. (If you don’t believe me, ask all too many professional athletes and rock stars.) Anyway, Jeff, do you really think you’ll be able to duplicate this income next year and the years following?`Oh, yeah . . . of course you will.

Doesn’t he still owe the Merc outfit for the $20 mil he handed to the wrong Afghan? Or did that little swim in the River Trff square him.

Royalties will sneak up on you. First you get that wonderful advance. Next it has to earn out. At 10% of cover for each book sold, that will be tough.

Let’s say you get an advance of 100,000 (yeah, right, Jeff gets more than that? we’ll use th is for easy figuring). Say your book is hardcover, and retails at 29.95. that means, for each book sold, you get 3.00. But if you have an advance of 100k, you see no money until enough books have sold for your $3 royalty per book pays back the 100k. that’s 33,333 plus books, Jeff. Hope you’re selling that money.

I’d give another rant about mass market paperback and reserves against returns, but it’d end up tl;dr, and I don’t want to drive everyone nuts lmao.

Jeff has established he can write books that will be best-sellers. Yesterday’s sequel drafts have impressed Becca enough to advance riches for the next two books. He’s in no trouble.

“Does Jeff even know B.D.? Are you thinking of Jeff’s dad, Rick?”

    Jeff may know B. D., who is his half-aunt’s (Alex’s) dad’s (Doonesbury’s) best friend. . . . Or maybe not.

WAIT! I just deleted the above. Jeff (whose mom is Joanie) is Alex’s half-UNCLE. Alex’s mom is Joanie’s daughter, J. J., from an earlier marriage. Whew.

    B.D. is also Jeff’s best friend’s unkle’s employer.

I can think of a couple other paths from Jeff to B.D.; it’s an incestuous little world. (Wasn’t B.D. among the crowd in attendance when Jeff was born? “Am I related to ALL these people?” Yes, you are.) And it WOULD be interesting to see what disabled combat-vet B.D. would think of “Red Rascal”…

@fritzoid — Obviously he did work hard on his blog and his book, which captured the attention of the publisher. And even if he didn’t work hard, if he has a marketable talent, then he has a marketable talent.

I love the “occupy Doonesbury” comment. Success, even in fictional characters, must be envied and destroyed!

You people who are jealous of this character are not failures because of the 1% or anyone else. You’re failures because of your life choices.

“Becca, only if you were real.”—-leftwingpatriot

She’s “real” in the same way that the shadows projected on the wall of Plato’s cave were real: the cave dwellers had nothing else to look at, so they let their imaginations play with the shadows—-exactly like Doonesbury readers.

Y’all ever think that maybe the whole group of us should have paid more attention in art class in grade school? All those zero’s would look mighty fine on my bank statements. (I didn’t pay enough attention in art class either, I have a problem even drawing stick figures!)

Trolls? Didn’t Jeff’s thought balloon suggest his advance will assist him in his trolling. At his age… that is his priority. Just wonder if Red Rascal will work his way into the trolling..first time I heard of the term trolling (ie for dates, women) was about 30 years ago. I wished my neighbour good hunting and to be careful out there..So Jeff – Be careful out there!
