Well theres Egg and Bacon, Egg sausage and Bacon, Egg and SPAM………..

Speaking of holidays, I attended a fantastic Passover seder in Yucatan, where I thought there would be no such kind of event. See my description of it in Benitin y Eneas en Espanol (Mutt & Jeff).

One Easter when the kids were little, we lost an Easter egg — the kids couldn’t find it and we forgot where we put it. Next August, my wife was putting the ironing board back in the closet. CRUNCH! Boy, did she find it!

Coloring eggs is fun. Hiding eggs and looking for them is fun for both the children searching and the adults watching them look for the eggs. Forgetting where they were hidden and missing a few- not so much. An entire “Gilmore Girls” episode was based on this. Pretty well written and acted, and it still STANK!

Typical. Somebody has to go ahead and try to bring religion into a simple holiday like Easter.

2012 is pretty much a rerun of 1983. But in 1983, Easter was on the first Sunday in the month, so to delay the Easter week strips one week, the strips that were published the week after Easter in 1983, were shown here two weeks ago. For example, the March 26, 2012 strip was originally published April 4, 1983, while today’s was originally published April 2, 1983. Next Monday, what was originally published April 11, 1983, will be shown here (a prediction).

Seams a weird thing to do to Easter eggs, but most of them end up deviled.

My parents did not go with the egg coloring thing since none of us would eat hard-boiled eggs. You can color raw ones, though – as an exercise and then hide plastic ones

One particular Easter my family spent the day with cousins who had a large, semi rural property. But it started to rain, so the Easter egg hunt was conducted indoors. Needless to say, some eggs went unfound untl much, much later . . .

Before everyone gets themselves tied up in knots, I really think bluskies was just being funny – tongue in cheek, as it were.

Whom are you quoting? Regardless, the quote is excellent — and both the Old and New Testament writers would agree with it..The only purpose of any religion is to help you understand who and what you are in relation to objective reality, and how to live your life accordingly. The rest may be beautiful and inspiring, or just toxic human ritual and prejudice…either way, it’s not what it’s supposed to be for. Trouble starts when the believers start worshipping their church, or their preacher, or any physical item, instead of the One who deserves it.

It’s very easy to pickle hard boiled eggs. Get some vinegar, salt, whatever spices you like, a few sliced jalepeño peppers and let it all sit for a couple of weeks. Goes well with beer.

Oh yeah, I forgot: Peel the eggs first. (It should go without saying, but……)

I love the chocolate bunnies and covered marshmallow eggs. Hard boiled egg whites lovely, the dogs get the icky yolk.Thank you secularlists for all the cool treats. I’m off to hang a finch feeder out the window as the little birds are back now and so entertaining. A true sign spring has arrived.

You can’t forget: like Christmas,Jesus is the Reason for the season on Easter. He arose! He arose! Hallejuhah, He arose! And real eggs should never be put out in room temperature. They get semolina poison if they are. Put those dyed eggs in the refrigerator. Use plastic eggs with jelly beans inside them along with coins or little toys. That’s what I did and the kids loved them and the real eggs too.

Repeating today’s Lynn’s Notes:One tradition we really enjoyed every Easter was colouring eggs. My mother was a fine artist who tried every technique she could find to make our eggs different from the norm. She had us work with white wax crayons which kept the dye from colouring the shell. We then warmed and wiped off the wax so that another colour could be added where the wax had been. This was similar to the way the beautifully decorated eggs are done in places like the Ukraine. Ours were rough and “kid-like” but neat, just the same. She mixed vegetable oil with the dye to create swirling patterns. She put rubber bands around the eggs to make straight lines so we could draw around them. For us it was an art lesson as well as a great way to prepare for the coming of the E.B. who would hide them in the night!Eating the eggs we had so carefully coloured was difficult because we hated to destroy the shells. This resulted in mom’s “Easter tree”. She would carefully break each shell in half, use a needle to tie a thread to the top and hang the shells from the branches of a small shrub she’d placed in a vase. For us, Easter Sunday was as enjoyable as Christmas – and without the expense!
