I don’t know if anybody’s noted this on previous pages, but it is interesting how Joe has drawn Blackjack with the idea that he is to be a recurring foe for DT (like Flattop in a previous era). Blackjack tells DT “you need an opposite number – and that’s me!” Check out how his image shows this, particularly dramatized in the April 12 strip where BJ makes his declaration and the last two panels show them facing off:-DT has a big light-colored hat and suit, white shirt; BJ has a big dark-colored hat and suit, black shirt-DT’s eyes are unnaturally narrow, really slits; BJ’s unnaturally wide, really circles-DT’s nose large and blocky in profile; BJ’s small and pointy-DT’s chin square in profile; BJ’s pointy-DT generally tight-lipped; BJ open-mouthed-DT’s ears round and wide; BJ’s very narrow-DT taciturn and frowny; BJ blabby and smileyAnd so on. Seems clear that Mike and Joe are grooming Blackjack for longevity in the strip.

@cegarvinBlackjack won’t survive this storyline, in my humble opinion, because he’s too goofy. Too hung up on style points instead of robbing for gain. Too interested in earning DT’s respect. His longterm survival instincts seem lacking.

Great action! If Blackjack survives and goes to jail, he’ll probably be an even bigger Tracy fan!

Seems like in a perverse way, Blackjack’s belief in our Mr Tracy’s abilities has been rewarded…

Clearly BJ has the advantage here, he is inside high & dry, defroster & heat, not to mention at least four guns. DT has to hold on with two hands, fight a blinding snow in the face, his coat blowing in the wind (which makes him an even bigger target). I do think that BJ will escape. Plan your work, then work your …

One thing for sure, I will never say this strip can’t get any better. It continues to top itself. The bar is pretty high gentlemen. Now I will continue to EXPECT excellence! Mike and Joe, keep ’em coming!

I hate to admit it, but I want Blackjack to get away, just so the story doesn’t end here! And I agree – “Woohoo! It’s Dick Tracy!”
