We leave our girl in a ‘doggy spa’, but we still have a hard time enjoying ourselves on vacation because we miss her!

When our daughter goes anywhere she does not put her dogs in kennel we take care of them and they have freedom to roam in the house.

Our dogs love going to their Sitter while we travel. They also love going to their Groomer’s.

I remember reading about an old lady dying and leaving her dog a bazillion dollars. The news article that wrote about it said something about “that lucky dog.” But that lucky dog was housed in a kennel! How much better it would have been for the dog to live in a regular house with caring people.

That’s why my little bird is going with me. I would not be able to enjoy going more than minimum time if I left him where he would not be the only guest of honor. I can stay there for 3 weeks while he stays most of the time at my youngest son’s house, with his 2 birds-similar size even tho’ different breed. This is a trial visit as that is where he will go in my will. He already knows and loves “Uncle Mike” but this lets him meet the other birds (and I can see him whenever I miss him). At the groomer where I once boarded him for minimum time there are much bigger birds (and smaller) and he gets frightened.

We had to do this with an abandoned pup we found at a fish camp we use to go to. After 3 weeks with us, we had to put him in a kennel so my fiance’ and I could travel to NY to marry. I know he thought he was being abandoned again. He looked so sad when I went to pick him up as they brought him out to me. Took him a while to realize I had come backed. He was so happy then. I never did it again. He went everywhere with us. Had him for 14 years. RIP Scooter. We will never forget you.

Waiting to talk to vet after having to leave our elder cat overnight. He had that same look as Farley when we left him, plus a bit of fear/anger because of the bobcat caged in the same room. But he didn’t have to stay near the bobcat, that was just the exam rooms. He had to stay someplace worse, the kennel with 8 kittens, 4 under 4 weeks old!

I was at Lambert (St. Louis) once, and a lady had a dog in a carrier to take with her.“That’s a fine looking doggie”“Thank you”“But I don’t think he’d made a very good coon dog”(dirty look)

Eh, if I have to I board them at a reputable place. Ask to see the facility. I have a much better time when I know my dogs are safe. not getting out accidentally, or digging their way out of the yard when the sitter isn’t looking.

“when my one of my brothers and me” -That should be “When one of my brothers and mGOD DAMN THIS NO EDIT FEATURE !!!!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I found a way to edit.(well, actually my spell checker DOES highlight a misspelling.)But sometimes after you submit, and read what you have written, or you just want to change the wording, if you move your cursor to the bottom, the word ‘delete’ appears, So you can copy what you’ve written and paste it into a new post and make corrections before you send it.

If our dog can’t come with us on vacation then we don’t go there! We’d no more leave her behind (and certainly not in a kennel!) than we would an actual 2-legged child. She’s just as much a part of the family as everyone else around here is and doesn’t deserve to be left behind — alone, miserable and feeling abandoned, I’m sure — while we go off for more than just a few short hours without her. Besides, we’d really miss her and be so worried about how she was doing without us that we’d have a terrible time anyhow . . . so why not just save ourselves all the head and heartache and take her with us to begin with?!

I hate there not being an edit button too. Just do what I do: when I write something, I highlight and copy before pushing the “submit” button. That way, if I then want to correct, add or delete something from what I just posted, all I have to do is then paste my original text into a new window and there it’ll be in the exact same format as before. After I make my corrections, I re-sumbit it and when the new one appears, I delete the previous one. But even if you forget to do that part first, you can still highlight and copy what you’ve already written and posted into a new window and make your corrections then (although if you did anything special to the first post, like bold or italics, then you’d have to remember to do that part again by hand; otherwise it won’t show up the next time, which can be really aggravating when that happens!). Hope my suggestion helps!

After reading the above posts, you city folk know how your pets feel after you dump them in the country.(By the way, their “retirement” is usually short lived in our area due to the coyotes that are now expanding)

We used to have a problem with dumped cats in our area, but the coyotes solved that problem. Adult cats can climb trees, but when the kittens mew — it’s a dinner bell for the coyotes.
