so Gene caved. rots a ruck. Mary Lou’s words say one thing but her body language says something else. i’d keep a bag packed and the bus schedule handy or prepare for life as a doormat.

You have to just work on these things and eventually come to understand. Otherwise, you spend your life running from the unthinking slight, the careless word, and the imagined attitude. True compatibility is really the ability to become compatible. It’s just empathy and wanting it to be better.

And at such a young age, Gene has learned to not add the REST of that line – “for such a shallow mind”. Good job! Wisdom beyond his years.

Some are guessing that Marylou railroaded Gene into going back to school. .We don’t know how she did this, or how she presented her view.It could have been very calm, level headed with lots of care and concern..She could care a lot about Gene and can see this best for him, especially with only a summer of classes away to finish..This is not. “M my way or the highway.” It’s two people looking out for each other.

Aww, its sweet they both said sorry. While crossed arms could be defensive, it could also represent insecurity towards the future/Gene’s decision (self hug). All she wants is for him to finish school. I don’t get why that is a bad thing and why he should run from the relationship. All I got to say when I read half the people’s comments on gocomics I thank the gods I have a great marriage (15 years now. Gawd I’m old!). Hubby is my best friend and rock. It does exist, and it does take two for it to work (yeah that means you have to share some of the blame, even if it means your choice of sig other).

Yah, they’re both in a position that’s telling. He can still turn around and leave, if she doesn’t unfurl that judgemental, ‘My way or the highway’ stance of hers. I get that her child’s father is a loser. But she has to get that not all guys are like that. Gene’s not a jerk. Anyone who loves her kid, and wants to get married, is a good guy. Isn’t there a country song on this very topic??

IMO, Gene’s comment about a deep subject is in response to ML’s “Well…”, not both saying “I’m sorry.” IMO.
