… great strategy … until you inevitably meet the mean, hateful, thoughtless person who’s also tougher than you …

The only defense against bad, violent people is good people who are more skilled in violence.

Actually violence has settled MORE disputes than anything else. Remember how WWII settled all that NAZI racial superiority nonsense.

    History is full of examples.

And yes, I know there are still some boneheads who haven’t gotten the message.

Problem is, everyone feels that they’re the good person in the story – and the other person/people/group/ etc. deserve what they get.

Oh yeah, and there’s always someone bigger and stronger who will take you down. Live by the sword ….

Annie is an orphan. She’s testing. Will Lila still love her when she shows her worst side? Depending on her prior life, she may also have only a shaky sense of cause and effect. Her empathy may be low.

Lila’s a great mom for her because she’s accepting. She sets expectations and guides Annie but doesn’t demand perfection. How could she?

History tells us that violence is the way to get your way. Just ask the Native Americans.

@K MAnnie’s T-shirt … what does it say? “I am greater than you”? (Had to get out the old magnifying glass to read that.)

LeoAutodidast: (first comment): It did? Take a look at the US now. Jim Crow is back on the flagpole [see Bill Mauldin’s second Pulitzer]. Videogamers are recruited for remote control lynchings. Private profit concentration camps hold citizens until they can be “deported” to countries they have never even visited, because some ancestor may have come from there four generations ago. Voting is being restricted to the Aryan Meisteraße. And the self-described (in Marbury v Madison, not the Constitution) final arbiter of law is led by two who are effective employees of Koch Industries and a Chief who gets substantial speaking payments from them as well. Who won?

Annie you have to learn not to fight and use violence. That is not a good thing.

I’m with you all the way, all these “violence never helps the situation” people mostly likely were never chase down in school and beaten up every day. I can’t stand bullies or the people who shelter them!

Annie lost the minute she answered verbal violence with physical violence. As for World War II – it didn’t solve anything. It just allowed the US and the Soviet Union to become the biggest bullies on the block. For me, the proof was what happened in Soviet block countries when the USSR failed. All those ethnic tensions that had divided the people before they united behind a common hate of the Russians came right back to the surface.Violence begets violence. It never solves anything. But Annie is smart. She will figure it out one day. And Eldo, you are right. I do love them because their flaws do make me think.

You don’t have to beat them all up. Just enough of them so your reputation proceeds you with the rest of the Neanderthals.
