Actually the Earth was used as a penal colony for the criminally insane much as Australia was used by Great Britain. Our ‘civilization’ is the descendant of that colony.

The blackboard explanation is a design, and is just as intelligent as any other cockamamie explanation I’ve ever heard……but I understand that some people are evolving on this issue…..

As one who is religious and scientific, I must say that science gets rather conjectural around the edges, and those edges sound no more provable than religion’s tenements. Anything experiments regarding evolution that have been explained to me could also be taken as proof that life could have been created on purpose.

Your mileage may vary.

Saying the design is intelligent doesn’t make it a good design.

Bender, nobody cares who or what caused it! That can only be conjecture at this point in our evolution. We’re still working on the “How” and get all kinds of crap for doing it, too, I might add….Truth is the only goal. I will concede that modern physics is a bit speculative, however…….

if you want tio claim intelligent design, you have to first define intelligence! this falls under the category “be careful what you wish for!”

They keep saying that Intelligent Design isn’t thinly disguised Creationism, but if you don’t postulate a being functionally equivalent to God, then SOMEBODY Evolved naturally, which ID says can’t happen.

Arthur Clarke short story from many years ago…. aliens are scouting Earth, but quickly cross it off the list as having no future possibilities. Back at home the boss alien asks why? The scouts report, because they test nuclear weapons in the atmosphere….Yes, folks, we really did.

Aliens, eh? Well… where did THEY come from? Originally?The bottom line is that you WILL have faith. You will have faith in whatever answer you choose to believe. But since NEITHER side will ever be proven 100%, you will have to take that jump of faith on your own. Choose wisely.

Personally, I find it mind blowing that scientific data supports the theory that there has to be another planet out there that is like earth, that has intelligent life, and they’re probably wondering what other life is out in the universe too – if they don’t know already. (However, I don’t believe in alien abductions)

Yes, Wiley should have drawn the ape and the alien monolith as an homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey. But for those who have not seen this great movie, maybe the flying saucer and brain-ray is better.

If our scientists are so smart, how come they are still not able to bring life to a non-living thing, create real artificial intelligence, find the missing link, or explain why evolution has ceased to occur? And you scoff at God?

Well I hope the School Board is satisfied now.

God and the Bible belong in church, not in schools. And who says evolution has stopped? Nothing evolved overnight. Look back in a few hundred years.

At least 3 dozen state legislatures would likely vote in favor of teaching this in the classroom……

Brian Ransom – artificial bacteria have been created, evolution is very definitely still happening and being observed, and many of the “missing links” have been found and more are being found all the time (there is no single key missing link). Computer science is a long way from artificial intelligence still but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. As far as an earlier comment about why it is important – for example, a lot of our medical technology is based on evolution. Not to mention agricultural science. Really all of modern biology is dependent on evolution.

But this doesn’t explain why there are so many morons in the world. The real answer is that God needs something to do when the cable goes out. :-)

These alternative theories are the fantasies of people so lazy they would rather just “believe” something rather than learn or worse, know reality.

Wuz and sammysock, I was thinking more along the lines of HIM saying, “Ha! You guys crack me up. Let’s go have a beer. Vinny, watch the gate, k?….BTW, guys, remember, this is heaven. Anything you want…… Oh, look, here’s our waitresses now….Great ladies all…Hey, remember that time you were talking to Flanders and you said….”

There are 3 choices:

1. All civilizations have gone extinct before becoming advanced enough to simulate our ancestors.

2.  All civilizations advanced enough to simulate our ancestors had absolutely no interest in doing so and therefore did not.

3. At least some civilizations advanced enough to simulate our ancestors did so and thus we are almost certainly simulations.

If intelligent design was involved this makes more sense than Genesis.

Boring story to follow, but I hope it makes a point: My parents taught me a lot about the Bible, enough to make me eager to ask questions. Then public school taught me evolution theory (not much detail, just assertions), which made me eager to ask questions. So I studied detailed evolution as thoroughly as I studied the Bible. Ended up convinced evolution cannot be true, but that’s not the point. The point is this: teach anything you want in school; parents can teach anything they want at home; trust the student to be smart enough to ask questions, learn, and form their own conclusions.

Have to say, it’s as good a theory as any other. Although i do believe that Mr WillardMBaker is onto something.
