She looks great! Joe Staton did a great job in panel 2 capturing Moon Maid’s classic look, and her hair is great, too. I think I’m in love! But what’s with the mask?!
Moon Maid, relative, copycat, whoever. Matters not to me. She’s ANOTHER great link to the past and this reader approves. And she’s hot! Reminds me of cartoon royalty Jane Jetson singing “Won’t You Come Home Bill Spacely.” Yowzah indeed!
Moon Maid was my first “boyhood crush”! Okay I admitted it! I was already out of High School when she was killed off. I NEVER forgave that writer for doing that! Boycotted his novels and any of his work ever since. This probably isn’t Moon Maid, but the story will be so much fun! THANKS to the new DT team for making this strip so enjoyable again. I actually look forward to a comic strip again!
This masked, wasp-waisted vigilante, whoever she is, certainly looks good. But she can’t be Moon Maid, who is seriously dead! Let her rest in peace! Eventually,we’ll learn who this relative/imposter/imitator/wannabe really is—even if it’s Honeymoon after a sudden and dramatic growth spurt!
Well according to mike that is not a mask. They are bandages. Makes you wonder? Since he has said this is a sub plot we will probably not see her again for a while. Maybe when the bandages come off???
Thank you everyone for all of your respectful comments and opinions yesterday and so far today. Fans are sharply divided on whether or not they enjoy the Moon Stories, but everyone expressed themselves without bashing other opinions, and that made the forum a joy to read!
Thank Tarry for the link to the original Moon episode in 1963. I went there to reread it. I was able to put my finger on one thing that bothered me about the story. If something like that was to actually happen in real life you would expect the city to be swarming with Government agents and scientists and news media. But, the way it was depicted, it was just sort of “business as usual” for the rest of the world. Diet Smith did quietly bring in a fellow from the Federal Government, but there was not much ado about the whole affair. And, when Junior ran off with Moon Maid, Tracy quit his job on the city police force, as if somehow his job had something to do with the whole business. But, if you think about it, the Police Dept had absolutely nothing to do with it – it was just Tracy’s friendship with Diet Smith, really.
Anyway, I will say again that Joe Staton certainly has captured the classic “look” of Moon Maid. Seeing that art from ‘63 and today’s art – just perfect! I join others who have expressed hopes that the Team Tracy will take it easy with this story, and hope that we all can enjoy it.
Well that’s a new CLUE from Mike. Bandages on the (lower?) face. Shadow above * – not* a mask !Does lend itself to yet another ’ theory ‘. A facial injury, now healed, horrible scars. A fear to return to family ? A story that likely requires a real final end.- It’s the REAL - Moon Maid ! Now a Lone Wolf Vigilante ? Out there now after full recovery, to stop the forces of EVIL that ruined her ’ Family ’ life ?
Well, it’s just another “possibility” in this great comic strip.-But it will be a patient wait for Fans. It’s a long. long road to Tipperary !
Unless Mike is using a different name on Yahoo, I don’t see a comment from him there either. There are comments from “shandafa” and “syd2918@” that mention bandages.
It’s some kind of set up. A robbery in broad day light,a hero ‘just’ happens to be on the scene, with a news crew near by?I however have complete faith in Team Tracy to put a great spin on this!:>)
PLEASE GUYS, enough with the SPOILERS!If you want to discuss what you’ve read elsewhere, PLEASE WARN US so I can skip you’re comments.I want to follow the story to see how it unfolds. Mike’s a geeat stroyteller, and I don’t want to know what’s coming! Thanks!
As for today’s strip —Yowzah, indeed! The hair, the boots, the body, the gloves, the antenna… Great art – great action, and, thank you for the 60s flashback!(Stiletta? Stiletta who?)
Since the DT strip was resurrected from the dead, why not Moon Maid? I started reading Tracy in the 60s. I was constantly pestering my Dad to buy a Tribune on days other than Sunday, so I could keep up. Once I had a paper route I bought it myself. This latest development is icing on the cake after a year of wonderful stories. I trust Joe & Mike to do right, wherever this goes. Cheers!
Number 46 at 4:27pm eastern! yep, i’m back from my two days down the shore and i am NOT convinced thats moon maid… i’d be willing to bet cash money that SOMEHOW its ANGELTOP in disguise somehow!
let’s face it; most of us would be delighted to see those past iconic grotesques resurrected to have new adventures,so why not Moon Maid?? BB Eyes,Mumbles and Fifth & Flyface were all seriously deceased and not off-screen either!
Agreed. I so appreciate Joe Staton’s great work here. He wanted to get the Moon Maid look just right, and he hit it out of the park. Even at Gould’s best, I don’t remember her ever looking this good.
There were some who wanted Dick Tracy to remain a “cops-and-robbers”,strip. But I always liked the science-fiction element. Moon Maid was my favorite character. It was a very good exploration of a believable alien race. I didn’t follow the strip consistently but it seemed as if the writers ended up looking at it, as an embarrassment. Like, “Alright, we fooled around with this science-fiction garbage. Let’s get back on track. The real heroes are the Apollo astronauts who did it for real”. The attitude seemed to be that, no matter how imaginative the Moon Maid material was, it’s just kid stuff, fantasy and compared to reality, it has no intrinsic worth.Moon Maid was killed to get rid of a loose end. I don’t know if Honeymoon’s demonstrated any Lunar powers or not. But she’s kept around and her Moon heritage is allowed to fade into the background, where they hoped people would forget about it. Just my opinion, here. Moon Maid remains my favorite Dick Tracy character.
The 60s were not the greatest Gould era, as he got overly infatuated with the Space Age. Few really good villains and/or stories. Maybe don’t go in the Moon Maid or even similar direction. Where’s Phishface BTW?
