There once was a Caesar named Gus,
Who we assume was an unpleasant cuss,
'Cause down to our day, he's remembered this way,
For the misery summer visits on us!
which Roman bigshot can we blame for the misery ol’ man winter visits on us?it’s kind of a matter of degrees. to make summer more bearable, our a/c’s only have to bring the temps down from 90 to 78 or so. In winter we have to bring the temps up from like ZERO to 78 or so……….speaking in terms of economics, summer is better.
Nope, I will not complain in February, The thought of sitting in front of a fire while blowing snow howls outside with a cocktail and a good book…Mmmmmmmm…..I hate heat.
The only Guses I’ve ever know were Greek guys named Constantine…but then, what do you expect from Greeks? (My grandfather was Greek, so keep yer sense of humour, folks!)
I’ll take fall & winter over spring & summer any time! You can always dress warmer when it’s cold, even iside the house, but this unending heat and humidity is pure misery.

Can someone explain to a poor perplexed foreigner what it means?

Gus is short for Augustus after whom the month is named.

Well, that was a surprise. I was expecting it to end with the fact that in the US, August is the only month without a holiday.
