You disown your Tiger Mom?

I feel that way, every time I’m in Hong Kong !

The conversations in San Francisco’s Yelp Talk forums often turn to Asian/white issues. We have a couple of trolls there who just love to invalidate Asians who they see as “selling out” because they date white people.

We also have a lot of Asiaphiles who are obsessed with Asian women for reasons that are only sometimes flattering.

What is “feeling Asian enough”? Does feeling have anything real to do with being, unless one is pathologically insecure?

A lot of Asians try to look European by having eye operations, nose jobs and using skin creams.

“When I don’t feel Asian enough” … ???? -I’m trying to remember if there was ever a time in my seventy-three years … even for a moment … that I didn’t feel Scottish enough. -I think I can say no. -Is this feeling unique to Asians? … is it something only Asians experience?

It occurs to me that … if I was locked in a room full of Scots, all speaking with the ol’ Scottish brier … I might feel that I wasn’t Scottish enough to fit in. So … I guess I sort of understand the feeling … ? maybe.

What amount of Asian constitutes “Asian enough”?
