Lots of laws and rights get bent out shape in school.But it sure is fun to watch Calvin go to the edge and test Mrs Wormwood.

Well, Calvin, ignorance ISN’T bliss.

The Declaration of Independence is an important document in US tradition, but it does not have the force of law. It proposes “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” as unalienable rights but cannot guarantee them.

Calvin, you have the right to remain silent. LOL

I’d give Calvin a pass for even knowing about the Declaration of Independence at his age.

Today, Calvin is active in the Tea Party movement. (Sorry; someone had to say it.)

“Ignorance is bliss” is a gross mis-quote. Nobody ever said that and it is over-used. The quote is something like “in a place where ignorance is bliss, ’tis foolish to be wise.”Look it up.

That statement just doesn’t apply in school, Calvin. But it does apply to the fall line-up on the various networks.

So Tea Party people are uninformed? I find that pretty funny. I certainly don’t agree with everything they stand for, but I will give them credit that they do seem to have some good ideas (and some bad..like ALL parties) that seem pretty well researched.

I don’t understand how Calvin is still at Primary School when he uses big, complicated words like that in the 2nd and 3rd Panels.

If they are teaching a subject where the material is in conflict with the facts like elementary school history or creationism, I think he has the right to unclouded thinking and anarchy.

but that’s what school does to teach kids that ignorance is not bliss…and to accept it …until much later in the golden age they found the truth and realize YES ignorance sure is bliss…

Personally, I’d rather know the harsh, ugly truth — about anything — than to wallow around in happy, blissful ignorance . . . seems like in pretty much any situation it would be a lot less “dangerous” that way!
