Every time Watterson draws Calvin’s TV, I wonder what he is watching to make the TV jump like that…..

Well after all, television exists to deliver advertising. The shows are just bait to get you to the commercials.

I haven’t watched a real advertisement on TV in…well, never, really! Thank goodness for that mute button and having to go to the bathroom! Or run to the fridge to get a snack. ;)

Shoot all politicians, lawyers and ‘house sellers’—none of them earn the money they charge us anyways so they are useless. Just like tigers when you need them!~!!

Some cable channels have as much commercial drivel as network TV. Even online, you get popups etc.

Calvin watches tv after a hard day’s work, and adults hit the bottle. Either way, a mind-numbing experience.

Funny how the TV jumps a foot, presumably from showing loud action, yet Calvin looks bored. Or maybe just exhausted.

Now, any other day, I’d agree with the thrust—that kids spend way too much time in front of the tube..But we all know the stuff Calvin comes up with to fill his free hours. I’m not tremendously worried if he decides to go for a couple hours of mind candy.

There was in the past a bolt of lightening from the centre of silicone valley, and this wise womens voice boomed across the land ,you must put a mute button on all tvs .If you refuse I will make all game commercials real long. They all obeyed .

Television is bubblegum for the brain….When I was a little kid in the 1950’s I used to come home and watch soap operas before my mother eventually showed up….

@unnormal – The commercials may not have been so annoying back then, but they did the job – or we wouldn’t be enduring those very much more irritating commercials now.

Marketing has been doing its job for a very long time … and it was targeting kids almost from the beginning.

The industry term for an added sound boost to a commercial is called “gain riding”. I agree with many of you about the utility of a mute function on my tv. On the other hand, the commercial for Southern Comfort with the guy walking through the sand is a piece of genius – right up there with some of the Volkswagen stuff…

Yes, the CALM act was passed regulating the volume of commercials, and broadcast engineers are still trying to figure out how to implement it, since commercial production houses produce the advertisments as loud as they can.
