In one “Calvin and Hobbes” strip, Dad said he’ll cook dinner since Mom was sick. Calvin said Mom said Dad ate nothing but canned soup and toaster waffles when he was in college.

I hated it when my mom was out and my dad cooked.

Mike is getting Dad’s sense of humor and charming personality.

It’s not so funny when the barb is directed at YOU, is it, John?

The first time i remember my dad cooking while my mom was out of town…canned zucchini, fish sticks, and peas. The zucchini made me scared of zucchini for decades, the fish sticks were cold in the middle, but…I gave Peas a chance. ;) Le Saur Peas are pretty good.C.

I’d make sure Lizzie got dessert and Michael didn’t, although it was funny.

I cook better than everyone of my past girlfriends. I think that irked at least one of three of them.

Both my wife and I are good cooks. We rotate about a third each and a third “get what you want”. I was taught, but I still don’t know how my wife learned – her mother did all the cooking at home and her father was a professional. No practice, but good from the first.

I can’t recall my dad cooking much, but he was okay on the grill. Once he, my mom, and I were taking turns watching lamb shanks on a grill in the garage – it was raining and some kind of a holiday. I accidentally dropped one on the garage floor and hastily put it back on the grill I didn’t say anything about this, because I was afraid my dad would be mad. Later he admitted to dropping one, then my mom did, then I did.

My mom was in the hospital (I was too young to be told why), so my dad had to make the meals. He decided to make pancakes. They had done some remodeling in the kitchen, and he found an unmarked bag, that he thought was flour. Turned out it was wallpaper paste. I was extra glad when my mom came home from the hospital.

My Dad NEVER cooked until after my Mom passed away 6 years ago. Even then it was barely boiled water, microwaved hot dogs and reheated casseroles given to him by the church ladies. When we were kids, if Mom was out of town, we ate out – usually Me ‘N Ed’s pizza or Carl’s Jr. burgers.

My uncle who raised me is a great cook, I had no problem eating his cooking when my aunt couldn’t cook.

My dad cooked while in the Navy and he cooked really well at home. His chili and Navy bean and ham soup was excellent. Now my son cooks just like him.

That’s funny because my Dad is actually a better cook than my mom!
