Sorry for your loss. Our pets are such a big part of our lives. Hopefully after the appropriate amount of grieving you’ll be able to get a replacement pup.
So glad you got those extra years! I work in an ICU and we encourage our patients with pacemakers to allow their removal when they die to be donated for use in dogs.
In my 30 year marriage, my wife and I are currently with our 2nd Boston Terrier. We’ve had several breeds from Chihuahuas to Rottweillers and Boston Terriers are the most people friendly.
Our Buddy, a Maltese, left us in April after 13 years. He was rescued from a shelter, so we don’t know his real age. Like Cagney was for sure a member of your family, so was Buddy to us. We were given a gift for all those years.
70 years ago a neighbor had a boston terrier named Whimpey. The neighbor said whimpey didn’t care for young people. He spent a lot of time at our house with my grandmother and me. I always think of this pup and remember his actions, even though I grew up and in Calif. and had many cats and dogs and 5 kids who brought lots of them home. Blessings all!
So sorry for your loss. Bostons are wonderful dogs and mmy heart goes out to you. My first Boston Terrier lived to be 13, and my current one is between 15 & 17, he is a rescue so we aren’t sure of his exact age.
Thanks for sharing, I know how it feels to lose this member of your family. I have lost within a year of each other my minishnauzer Cindy n my Persian Minkey so heartbreaking.I’m glad that Cagney lives on with Zack! Sorry for your loss, : (
My prayer is that you will continue to be surrounded with God’s peace and comfort. It’s never easy losing a pet…but the memories will last a lifetime. Thank you for giving us this strip so that we can enjoy those memories with you.
If you believe the rainbow bridge is there, it is there. Have faith.I had no pets growing up (except for a goldfish). After I married my wonderful wife, I suddenly had 2 dogs, and now, over the years, many wonderful dogs (and a cat).We had a Chihuahua named Pepper who lived 26 years!Currently, we have a brother and sister mix from a Jack Russell mother and a miniature Collie – the boy is Pi and the girl is Jo. They are 4 years old now, and I am 70.I almost hope I go before they do, yet want to be there for them at the end.Maybe for once a human could wait for his dogs at the Rainbow bridge – that would be a nice change, eh?
I had a Boston, given to me by a neighbor, when I was five. His name was Davy Crockett. I hope Davy, Cagney, and Pat are having fun at the Rainbow Bridge
Cagney reminds us so much of our own Boston named Raleigh . He is family as was Cagney. Cagney was loved daily by your family and ours. The Goad family, Tx
Condolences. I know how tough it is to lose a pet. I have seen a poem called “The Rainbow Bridge” or something similar. Cagney’s just waiting for you to join him.
When I lose my best friend, the ones with four paws, itis heart wrenching. I so empathize with you and offermy deepest condolences. It will make me love mylittle lady all the more today and will be thinking of you.
So sorry to hear about Cagney. I lost both of my Bostons within a year of each other and am now owned by a 3 year old Boston named Wrigley. There is no better dog than a Boston Terrier.
May Cagney rest in peace. You will have all of the memories of him. And he will always visit you when you least expect. That has been my experience with all of my pets who have passed over.
I am very sorry about your puppy. Our dogs love us unconditionally and I can’t imagine being without a dog in my life. You will be in my prayers tonight.
I’ve had Bostons for years. They are the best! It’s wonderful you were able to keep yours as long as you did – I encourage you not to give up, but to give another wonderful little Boston the gift of your love and home.
RIP sweet Cagney. They always remain in your heart…no matter how many years it has been since they departed from your physical life. I do rescue for BTRNC (Boston Terrier Rescue of North Carolina). Have fostered (and adopted myself) 8 BT’s now. Some went on to their ‘forever homes’, some made their forever home with me. Now am down to 3..the original BT that I purchased..1 adopted and 1 foster. I remember with much love the ones that I had until they left for the Rainbow Bridge. Know Cagney is looking down from the Rainbow Bridge on you and your wife…with love…waiting for the day when he sees you again!!
SO SORRY JOHN! We had two rescues, grew up together, died within a year apart both at the age of 17, Teddy and Gallagher. Best dogs EVER! To this DAY I miss them! They left us in 1989 and 1990. Also had a cat named Hannah Bee. She lived to 16, died 4 days before her 17th birthday. We animal lovers know how sad you are and it reminds us also of what we have lost.
Very sorry about your loss. Been listening to a song and this is the chorus I would like to repeat for you and for everyone who’s had a loss in the family:
When the sorrow it breaks them,I will replace them, for you.Dead flowers for the torn apart,Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart.Let it rain until it floods.Let the sun breathe life once more.Reborn.
Thank you for sharing your love of Cagney thru Zack over these past many months&years. I also remember when Farley died in “For Better or Worse”. With each I felt as if I had lost my own pet. Many thanks for sharing. Check out American Stuffers on Animalplanet.com for a very interesting & loving solution when a very beloved pet dies. Even the tough biker cried when he brought his dog to Daniel for preservation. Worth checking. Thx again for sharing your loss with your loving fans.
I am so sorry to hear about this. My wife and I have a female Boston Terrier named Zelda. We knew Cagney of Zack came from real knowledge of how Bostons behave. You captured him so well that Cagney will now be immortal. That does not lessen your loss. We readers thank you for your talent and for your puppy muse. We have Cagney clips all over the refrigerator and C keeps a folder of Cagney situations. Based on your Creation of Cagney the real Cagney was a great dog and just as much fun as Bostons really are. In your sadness, remember the blessings that you had.
Family is family — it doesn’t matter if they’re wearing fur… My sympathies - he lived a good, long life - 6 years longer than if he was with a family who didn’t care for him properly.
My sympathies for your loss, Mr. Newcombe. Cagney must have been a wonderful dog. We have lost 5 best friends over the years and so share your pain. Bee
