If it’s Moon Maiden One then somehow she survived the car bomb but it scarred her face. Probably Sunday or the following Sunday we will finally find out.
plus i thought moon maid’s antannea were the same color as her skin. either these are some sort of device to duplicate moon maids magnetic power or its just a coloring error by gocomics today
i HOPE it is 60sfan… but somehow i think theres a curveball in here somewhere. the only time i remember reading moon maid was the big boy storyline where she got killed, and aside from that little “cameo” in that storyline when she got blown up, she didnt appear much in it so shes pretty much a “new character” for me… i saw her die and saw her funeral. but aside from that i’ve never “seen her in action” so to speak
That’s twice now (first was on 8/2) that we’ve seen Moon Maid do her thing on a bad guy, followed by a woman asking aloud who she is. I like that! I enjoy being tantalized, but not knowing the identity of this woman is really starting to play with my mind! Thanks to Mike and Joe for giving us this character.
Love your poetry, wndrwrthg!! Thank you! No doubt you’ve expressed what a lot of us are feeling about this lovely character. As much as I enjoyed Moon Maid as a kid, Joe’s take on her is 10 times better than Gould’s.
Stunning! [Pun intended.] This vigilante is really super-duper!The lady she rescued from the purse-snatcher is of course just fulfilling the traditional teaser rôle: “who was that masked man?” We still don’t really know the answer, though we are being led to believe she is Moon Maid. But why the scarf-mask? Scars from the explosion that didn’t vaporize her? I suspect not. But who is she?
Gotta agree, even though that “bad guy” was ZAPPED, she’s still hotter than he is. Wow, let’s rock whoever you are! (And yes, another poetic gem from WW. Keep ’em coming, friend.)
Trying to figure out that look on her face in the last panel. Looks like anxiety to me or maybe fear, which would figure if she’s hiding her identity. So whoever this fine looking lady is, she wants to be seen and known, but without wanting anyone to know who she is. Typical superheroine diva stuff. But who is she then? What do you think? Is really Moon Maid? Notta Chin Chillar? A relative or friend from the moon? Or an unknown imposter? If it’s not Moon Maid, why is she doing all this?
NO it’s not !Try Notta Chin Chillar !The sleight of hand is working, the lower unnecessary mask is the " give away ", it conceals the beard to which Notta is really attached. In this case, there won’t be Space Coupes, Air Cars, the only thing is Super Heroes, and Notta’s one PLAYING Moon Maid !.Notta’s out of prison now, reformed, repaying her debt to Society. This route gives the 60’s fans the THRILL, but in the end, a route less likely to offend those that are opposed to Sci-Fi in Dick Tracy-.So finally,, everybody comes away with a " piece " of what they prefer !.-Warning ! This won’t play out fully until early next year ! .
How funny would it be if it was Sue Reel (hence the “bandages”).
In other tidbits—picked up old issue of Action Comics in which DC reprinted some of their more famous letter column submissions. Joe Stanton’s Feb 1962 missive to JLA was reprinted. What was particularly interesting was he likened Superman to a certain square-jawed detective. I quote: “No other comic character has become as synonymous with the principles of law, justice and truth, except perhaps Dick Tracy.”
It’s Moon Maid’s sister come back to settle a score. Her visit will be brief not after she accomplishes her work and causing a little rift in the Jr. Sparkle marriage.
I’m guessing that IS Moon Maid, with rumors of her death now appearing greatly exaggerated. Joe and Mike have likely figured out a retcon that explains what really happened to her as well as where she’s REALLY from. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’ll be fantastic.
cannot remember MM’s dads’ name?? I thinking he took her home to nurse her back to health and now she’s back, but what about JR? What’s he gonna say & think?
Mornin’ Vista Bill and everyone!Mike and Joe sure know how to weave together a story! This tale has everything – a new villain and cyber-crime, with old favorite characters (can’t forget Vitamin Flintheart’s appearance), and even a Vista Bill film fest!Don’t know about Phishface, but you’ve sure got the readers hooked!
Anyone who likes Joe’s take on Moon Maid should check out his work on Charleton Comics’ E-Man, in particular E-Man’s girlfriend, Nova Kane!Long ago, Charleton had some of the very best artists in the business, including Steve Ditko, John Byrne, Jim Aparo, Dick Giordano, and of course, Joe!
As one who loved the Moon period, probably because it was the first exposure I had to the strip, including the animated version of her on archies tv funnies. I know the diehards hate it but, alot of things get better with age.
I love that Moon Maid may be back. But please make this the real deal or at least another “moon” creature that has come down to earth to imitate her “idol” maybe.
Dont make this a “earthling” in disguise. There are many story lines to go with that can work in the moon again.
Horns have to be flesh colored as well. Lets hope its the colorist who just made a mistake. Otherwise it may very well be some “magnetic headgear” attached. So if the artists are reading this, make sure the horns are skin color. That can be your tip off to us that this is a real moon “inhabitant”
If you are “behind the curve” like me, here is a short article on the Moon Maid era. I was in college/army at the time and thought the moon business was dumb, and did not pick up on Tracy for a long time. Resurrected my interest during the Locher haunted house series, and had just enough patience to make it into the new era, where I am once again hooked.
The link above provides a quick review of the Moon era of Dick Tracy, not the Burroughs story.
I dunno, folks, I’ve read the storyline where Collins killed off Moon Maid and unless the moon people have some serious regenerative capabilities of which I’m unaware, I don’t think she’s coming back from that. She was killed by a car bomb, and it was pretty clearly an incendiary (as opposed to just being a concussion device)—the car was burned to a crisp. Which means her body was probably a pretty gruesome sight, and that was before the autopsy that would have been mandatory.Ever read what’s involved in an autopsy (or seen an episode of any of the CSI’s or NCIS)? Any life function that’s gone undetected by the time it starts will not survive the procedure. No, I think this is either some other moon person or someone mimicking their abilities.
The approximate passage of time in a comic strip (other than Gasoline Alley, of course) can be difficult to gauge. Whether or not the powerful lass in today’s strip actually turns out to be a resurrected Moon Maid, what’s the official word per Mike and Joe as to how much time has gone by in the feature (as far as the characters are concerned) since Moon Maid’s passing?
Your so right Day-Day2001! You described her to the “T”! She is HOT! Sexy! Everything I loved about Moon Maid. I HOPE, HOPE, HOPE it is really her! This character would add so MUCH to the excitement the new team has brought to DICK TRACY!
Joe Station was one of the best comic book artists (I remember his amazing work on the Justice Society in the 70s) and now he has seamlessly moved to comic strips and become the best Tracy artist ever!

I’m hoping it is Chin Chillar, a certain loose end in the strip I’ve been (mentally) promoting. BB Eyes, sure he was fun to see again. Mumbles always survives. Moon Maid’s demise was a milestone of the post-Gould years and while sad it’s a marker I’d prefer to see kept.
I wouldn’t get upset or put too much thought into the coloring of the dailies since Joe and his team have nothing to do with it. .It’s pretty clear that Moon Maid’s death hasn’t been retconned since we recently saw Junior at her grave. Besides, if it had, why would Junior have been married to Sparkle? The current team seems to be generally very respectful of what’s come before..Since the car explosion that killed Moon Maid was a crime scene, I’m sure there was an investigation and some bits of her remains were found. If not, I’m sure Junior and Tracy would have figured out that she escaped somehow and would search for her..Based on Honeymoon’s appearance when her mom died and her current appearance, I’m guessing about 8 or 10 years have passed.

Though lightning crackles from her fingertips
I cannot stop staring at her
Oh Selene, Goddess of the night
Who stops thieves in their flight
Pardon me if I may be so bold
To say you truly are a sight to behold
Your purple boots and lovely thighs
The beauty of your almond eyes
Supple hips and small of waist
Your kisses I can almost taste
And for you I would gladly die
If between your breasts my head could lie
I could sit for hours and just stare
At the curves of your oh so remarkable derriere
I know you are but an artists creation
So I’m using my imagination
To picture you as you would appear
Sans all your crime fighting gear
And to those who think this poem may be crude
Lighten up, don’t be a prude.
A very belated thank you to everyone who commented over the pasts month or so.
